Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 1214

"First, Eleanor doesn't have much time left. I need you to engrave this into your minds: you are never to mention a single word about the company's bankruptcy in front of her."

Mira stared coldly at the two men, waiting for their confirmation.

Both men breathed a collective sigh of relief. "Of course. We would have done that even if you hadn't asked. We want her to live her final days in peace, so we'll keep all the bad news far away from her."

Sebastian nodded solemnly. "You have my word. I'll make sure everyone in the family keeps their mouths shut."

"Secondly, when someone nearly killed me as a child, you were the one who saved my life, Sebastian."

She had to acknowledge the man's deed directly.

Mira kept her gaze fixed on him. "If you had just listened to reason back then and refused to let Seraphina marry Lawrence, none of this nightmare would have happened to the Quinn family."

"Setting aside all the vile crimes Lawrence and his mother committed, Jocelyn murdered Owen's mother. Knowing Owen's temperament, did you honestly think he was ever going to let her off the hook?"

"In the past, Owen was too young and lacked the power for vengeance, and later, Lord Leonard Lance aggressively shielded them."

"The old man's health was failing, and since he had raised and protected Owen, Owen temporarily set his revenge aside out of respect."

"But if Jocelyn and her son were ever allowed a happy ending, Owen would be a disgrace to his mother's memory."

"Sebastian, you've lived in Aethelgard your entire life. Are you telling me you didn't know anything about their dark history?"

"Why on earth did you let Gwen's delusional rambling convince you to hand your daughter over to a monster like Lawrence?"

Hearing Mira's harsh truth, Miles furrowed his brows and looked at his father. "Dad, what were you and Mom thinking? How could you have been so blind?"

Miles was of the younger generation and had spent years studying abroad, so it was completely understandable that he was out of the loop.

Mira shot Miles a sharp look. "Even if you knew, you wouldn't have been able to stop it."

"Eleanor tried to intervene, but no one listened to her. Gwen even threw a hysterical screaming fit at her. If I recall correctly, you were standing right there when it happened."

"I... I thought Grandma was just being difficult and meddling in things she didn't understand," Miles stammered, lowering his head in shame.

Owen finally broke his silence. "Actually, your father's main problem isn't that he's foolish, but that he's completely spineless. He couldn't withstand your mother's toxic whispering, and your mother has zero understanding of the actual power dynamics in this city."

Mira picked up the thread. "Jocelyn and Lawrence's downfall had nothing to do with Seraphina. Whether she married him or not, that mother and son were destined for ruin. By marrying him, all they did was drag the Quinn Group down with them."

"Honestly, even with the marriage alliance, if your family's leadership had an ounce of sharp vision, you could have insulated yourselves from his radioactive fallout."

"Unfortunately, you can't save someone who's determined to jump off a cliff. You actively chose to tie your fate to Lawrence's, so who could possibly save you?"
