Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 1201

Launching eight full years earlier in this timeline meant they had an astronomical competitive advantage.

The Javenaire Federation's tech blockade and refusal to push updates to Mavaria was effectively handing Aegis an effortless victory.

But Mira knew that advantage wouldn't last forever. They would realize their mistake in a matter of days, which meant she had to accelerate her timeline.

...

While Mira and Owen basked in the spotlight and answered reporters' questions, a heavily pregnant Seraphina glared at them from the outskirts of the venue, her eyes burning with venom.

She snapped at the nanny beside her. "Go. Tell the reporters that Owen's brother, Lawrence, is rotting in a prison cell."

The nanny glanced nervously at the stage, where the couple was smiling for the cameras. "I-I don't dare. I'm just a nanny."

"Go do exactly as I say. I'll give you a hundred dollars—no, a thousand."

But the nanny was far too timid to move.

"Fine. New plan. Pretend you're a resident of their neighborhood and go see that old hag.

Tell her... tell her Mira and Owen were in a horrific car crash.

If you can scare that old bat into an early grave, I'll pay you ten thousand dollars."

"Ms. Quinn, I wouldn't do something so illegal no matter how much you pay me.

You'll have to find someone else. I absolutely cannot do this job."

Hmph, don't think I don't know that your last nanny ended up behind bars because of you.

At that moment, neither of them realized that the court was about to hand down Lawrence's final verdict very soon...

Later that evening, after the press conference concluded flawlessly, Mira and Owen returned home to find Eleanor and Rachel still glued to the television, buzzing with excitement.

The moment they walked in, Eleanor beamed. "My Mira is just brilliant. No one is more capable than my Mira!"

Noticing Owen's mock-pout, she quickly added, "And my Owen is the second most capable..."

Owen prodded.

"Naturally. She's my actual granddaughter. But you're good too. As long as you treat my Mira right, I'll claim you. If you ever mistreat her, you're dead to me."

Eleanor lifted her chin haughtily, then turned away to share a secret giggle with Rachel.

Catching her amusement, Owen faked a look of profound heartbreak. "Are you even my grandmother anymore?"

"I am, and I love you too."

Eleanor's eyes twinkled mischievously. "But only if you put my Mira first."

"Still playing favorites. Why don't you tell Mira to treat me better? She bullies me every single day."

Eleanor didn't miss a beat. "Then just let her win."

Owen was speechless.
