"So what's your next move?"
Mira asked the detective.
"Jocelyn, Seraphina, and the nanny are all implicated, so they're all being detained, naturally.
The nanny claims she kept an audio recording of Seraphina giving her the orders. Our tech team is authenticating it right now.
If that recording is real, then Seraphina's attempted murder charge is locked in. Jocelyn and the nanny will also be formally booked."
After hanging up, Mira immediately dialed Master Ellis to check on her grandmother's vitals.
"She's stable, but after an ordeal like this, her already frail body took a massive hit. She showed signs of waking up a moment ago, but I administered another round of acupuncture to help her sleep. She needs the rest."
Mira briefly updated her master on the police investigation before ending the call.
Jocelyn was finally caught in the net, but the cost had been Eleanor's health.
Fueled by a surge of anger, Mira turned to Owen. "Submit the rest of the evidence we have on Jocelyn's other crimes. I want her locked away where she can never cause trouble again."
"Done. I'll have my secretary submit it first thing tomorrow morning," Owen said softly. "It's late. You need to sleep."
Just as Mira slid into bed, Ethan called. He mentioned his newborn's one-month milestone and asked if Mira could attend. He was clearly testing the waters, hoping she might forgive him and mend their fractured relationship.
Mira cut right to the chase. "Don't bother telling me about these things anymore. Our relationship is strictly business.
As for any familial ties between us, those are dead and buried. Forever."
"Mira, can't we ever just be a family again?" Ethan asked, his voice heavy with resignation.
"No."
"No need. I'll talk to her when I come back this afternoon. Let her rest. I'm heading to class."
Her phone rang just then. Ethan and his group had already landed at the airport.
"Master, Ethan's group is here to see Grandma. Have Brayden pick them up. Book their rooms and meals at the Solflare Grand Hotel nearby."
The Solflare Grand Hotel was primarily known for its world-class dining, but it boasted luxurious entertainment and accommodation suites as well. Mira arranged it simply to fulfill her duties as Eleanor's host.
If they were visiting Aethelgard on any normal day, she wouldn't have given them the time of day.
When Mira returned after school that afternoon, Eleanor had already been moved out of the ICU into a regular VIP suite. She was awake.
Ethan, his brothers, and Lacey were gathered around her bed. Mira merely gave them a cool glance and a curt nod in greeting.
Julian almost called out to her, but Ethan stopped him. "Mira doesn't like to be crowded."
