Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 1191

"I'm going to build a nest egg for myself. When the day comes that I can't take care of myself anymore, I'll hire someone to look after me. If one isn't enough, I'll hire two.

Let me tell you, sometimes your own flesh and blood aren't as dedicated as someone you're paying to be there.

If you're only bound by obligation, then it's only parents who are truly good to their children. As for children looking after their parents, that's not always a guarantee. Let alone someone married into the family with no blood ties at all.

Mira, I know you're incredibly busy, but when the time comes, I just need you to carve out a little time to keep an eye on the caretakers for me."

"Of course. Don't worry, when that day comes, I'll absolutely make sure they're doing their jobs right."

Since Rachel already had a plan in place, Mira didn't try to coddle her. "I'm sure Mason will help you keep an eye on things, too."

"Him and his wife? You just watch them for me, and make sure they don't swindle me out of my money."

Mira was speechless.

"Rachel, Mason isn't like that. Do you have some kind of prejudice against him?"

Rachel didn't see it that way. "Who can say for sure? Grandma Eleanor never thought the granddaughter she raised with her own two hands would try to kill her either.

What you don't know is that last time you went to the Balkan Underworld, Mason and his wife were here. He kept dropping hints, intentionally or not, about how tight their finances were. If that wasn't him gunning for my money, what was it?"

"Maybe Mason was just trying to confide in you."

"Silly girl, since when does someone care for you and suddenly slip their own financial troubles into the conversation?"

"Alright, let's drop it. We'll do it your way. It's always better to be safe than sorry."

Mira honestly didn't know when Rachel had developed such a strong bias against Mason. Perhaps watching the Quinn family's collapse and the Lance family's endless betrayals had simply made her paranoid.

After Mira and Owen finished dinner, they hurried upstairs. They both had urgent studies and a massive workload to tackle.

"By the way, Elara Finn and Jillian Lowe dropped by earlier. They said they were bringing your backpacks. I offered them dinner, but they just left the bags and headed out."

"I know, I asked them to drop those off."

The footage shows her nanny getting out of the car, carrying a box that looked identical to the tonic.

Ten minutes later, the nanny returned, carrying a similar box."

"Did Seraphina confess?"

"Of course not. We had to use your Veritas Fluid to get the nanny to spill the truth.

But Seraphina refuses to admit to anything. She claims the nanny was acting under her mother-in-law's orders. And since she's pregnant, we can't administer the serum to her yet."

"Did her mother-in-law confess?"

"No. The two of them have been screaming at each other the second they crossed paths at the precinct.

Later, we used the serum on Jocelyn. She admitted that she had suggested targeting the old lady to Seraphina, but she insisted she didn't give the nanny any direct orders."
