Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 1169

If it had been left to a useless coward like Richard, everything would have completely imploded by now.

Richard hesitated. "You think they'll just let a rogue doctor stick needles into him?

Last time we visited, that live-in nurse watched us like a hawk. He never left the room."

Jocelyn clenched her jaw. "We'll do it whether they like it or not. We'll distract the nurse and let the doctor do it secretly."

Her son's life mattered more than anything else.

"But what if the doctor makes a mistake and triggers a fatal stroke?"

He was still the man's flesh and blood, and his father had spent a lifetime cleaning up his messes. A shred of conscience still lingered within Richard. Though it was just a shred; the rest of his morality had long since rotted away.

Jocelyn waved off his concern with terrifying casualness. "So what? He's ancient anyway. He's practically got one foot in the grave. If he stops breathing, they'll just chalk it up to natural causes.

We pay off the clinic staff, smooth things over, and walk away. They won't want a scandal on their hands either."

Jocelyn spoke with the chilling ease of someone deeply experienced in foul play.

"No. He's my father. I won't risk it."

"If we don't risk it, we let Lawrence die! You spineless coward!

Between an eighty-year-old man on his deathbed and your twenty-something son, who are you choosing?"

Jocelyn screamed.

Smack! Richard backhanded Jocelyn sharply across the cheek. "Who are you calling a coward? If I'm such a loser, why were you so desperate to crawl into my bed back then?

Hit me if you're angry. I'm just so desperate..."

She sobbed uncontrollably, trying to look fragile and heartbroken, though the heavy makeup streaking down her aging face made the display look more pathetic than tragic.

Seeing her break down, Richard's anger quickly deflated. "I know you're anxious, but you don't get to attack me.

Lawrence is my son too. Do you think this is easy for me?"

"Okay, we're on the same page. Let's not fight. Our boy is running out of time."

Jocelyn smoothly shifted her approach. "I'm just suggesting we bring a specialist to evaluate him. If a targeted nerve treatment can wake him up, we do it. If it's too risky, we back off.

A true medical expert knows exactly what they're doing. They're not going to kill him and risk a murder charge, right?"
