Seraphina Quinn wore a pale yellow dress—a clear designer piece. Yet, no amount of haute couture could disguise how her pregnancy had altered her figure.
Her hair was swept up in an elegant, towering chignon. But even a thick layer of foundation couldn't hide her sallow complexion and the dark, exhausted circles under her eyes.
It was a glaring reflection of her miserable life lately.
She looked like a bitter, isolated housewife, stripped of the vibrant energy a nineteen-year-old should possess.
She glared at Mira Mercer with a twisted, hateful expression, looking like a demon crawling straight out of hell.
Mira held Seraphina's gaze coolly.
Mira wore a cream-colored dress. Though a simple slip design, the heavy satin draped flawlessly, accentuating the graceful curve of her neck and shoulders.
A perfectly placed slit in the skirt revealed a flash of her flawless legs with every step.
She wore no makeup and minimal jewelry, letting her stunning, radiant features speak for themselves.
Her aura was cold and her gaze piercing, so intimidating that Seraphina had to look away.
Damn it, Seraphina thought. Why is she still so perfectly put together, while I look like a washed-up housewife?
"How can you be so vicious? Striking a pregnant woman?"
It was Sebastian Quinn's voice. He seemed to have materialized out of nowhere.
But Mira wasn't about to indulge him. "Are you blind, Sebastian? Your daughter ambushed me."
Mira’s push had been a pure, defensive reflex.
"Exactly! She pushed me on purpose. She's trying to make me lose the baby!"
Empowered by her father's presence, Seraphina immediately played the victim.
"I haven't seen you in a while, Seraphina, but you're spewing as much garbage as your mother now," Mira replied icily.
"This is your family's home, and everyone is watching. Do you want me to pull the security footage?
Oh, wait, I almost forgot—you're a convicted criminal currently out on bail."
However, Seraphina mistook their silence for submission. "You're a poisonous snake," Seraphina hissed at Mira.
"You and Owen locked Lawrence up, and you had Luna and me arrested too.
Do you just want everyone to suffer? How can you be so ruthless?"
Mira gave her a deadpan look. "If you hadn't broken the law, would I have been able to get you arrested?"
She stepped closer to Seraphina. "Call me a snake, call me ruthless—I really don't care. What are you going to do about it?
Put me behind bars if you have what it takes. But you can't, because I haven't done anything illegal, and frankly, you're entirely powerless."
Seraphina turned purple with rage but couldn't formulate a single comeback.
"Mira, you're crossing the line!"
Sebastian roared, his chest heaving with indignation.
