Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 1136

Because of the crowd, Jocelyn only threw out a few superficial retorts to save face. However, she secretly memorized the woman's name, her ego boiling with lethal resentment.

Not long after that gala, the woman perished in a catastrophic car crash caused by sudden brake failure.

In reality, Jocelyn had paid a mechanic to meticulously sabotage the brakes.

Reading this, Mira snapped her gaze to Owen. "This sounds sickeningly familiar."

Owen's jaw clenched in deafening silence. Realization dawned on Mira. "This is exactly how she tried to kill you and your mother."

"She deserves to rot in hell," Owen stated, his voice dangerously low. "I promise you, they will pay for every single thing they've done."

The mere memory of his mother's fatal crash sent a suffocating wave of rage crashing through him.

"If the fallout from Lawrence's execution completely destroys Jocelyn and Richard, fine. But if they somehow survive the scandal, this dossier is the final nail in their coffin."

Just as he finished speaking, the intercom buzzed. It was the estate's security team. "Miss Mercer, there are three people at the main gate requesting entry. They claim their last name is Quinn."

Mira exchanged an exhausted look with Owen. "That toxic circus is back."

Owen glanced toward Eleanor's bedroom. "Let's head outside to handle this."

They were just heading toward the stairs to change clothes when Eleanor's voice called out from the hallway. "Is it my son and his family?"

They shared a helpless look, surprised by how sharp the older woman's intuition remained.

"Yes, Eleanor," Mira admitted softly. "But let us deal with them. You need to protect your peace. Don't stress yourself over this."

"Nonsense. Let them in," Eleanor said firmly, her posture rigid. "I want to hear exactly what kind of excuses they've cooked up this time."

Left with no other option, Mira keyed the intercom. "Clear them through."

Eleanor shot him a withering glare and huffed, refusing to entertain him any further.

But thanks to the banter, the oppressive tension in the room dissipated entirely.

Just then, a heavy knock echoed from the front door. Owen gave Brayden Knox a curt nod to open it.

"Oh my God, Mom! I finally get to see you!" Gwen Quinn burst in dramatically. "It's been so long! Mira has been keeping you locked away from us this whole time!"

"Mom, Mira is rotten to the core! She cut off her own flesh and blood—abandoning her parents, her brother, her sister! And as if that wasn't enough, she had to drag our family through the mud until we were completely shattered!"

"Let's just go home, Mom! Don't stay under her roof. She's a ruthless monster! She practically killed her own father and sister, and she refuses to acknowledge her mother! The moment she came to Aethelgard, she poisoned your mind against us. She got Lawrence thrown in prison, and now she's gotten Seraphina locked up too..."

The moment Gwen stepped through the threshold, she wailed and shrieked, putting on a spectacular theatrical display as if she deeply loved and desperately missed Eleanor.

However, Mira and the others didn't interrupt the performance, nor did they offer the uninvited guests a place to sit. Mira just leaned back against the sofa cushions, silently watching the pathetic spectacle unfold.
