Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 1061

No one looking at this mild-mannered, middle-aged man would ever guess he was the head of Aethelgard's most ruthless private syndicate. He was an entity that even the top four powerhouse families didn't dare cross.

"When I say incredible, I mean incredible," Mira teased, keeping him in suspense.

"How does Imperial Green Jade sound?"

Silas looked pleasantly shocked. "I certainly wouldn't say no, but the real question is whether you're willing to part with it."

He knew all about their operation in Balkana; many of the operatives who had accompanied them were actually his own men.

He hadn't gone himself. Master Ellis had ordered him to hold down the fort in Aethelgard. With him acting as their anchor in the capital, any sudden violent escalations back home could be instantly neutralized.

"I wouldn't give it to just anyone, but for you, Silas, anything," Mira laughed.

...

The moment they walked through the front doors of the estate, Grandma Eleanor pulled Mira into a crushing hug. "My precious girl, you're finally home. You terrified me."

"I'm completely fine, Grandma. I've been training so hard, I needed the real-world experience. A flower kept in a greenhouse won't survive a real storm."

Mira's expedition to the Balkan Underworld wasn't just about exterminating Mishka and her syndicate; it was a necessary crucible to forge her own resilience.

As for the danger, that was simply the price of standing at the apex of power. Even staying locked safely at home wouldn't stop assassins from knocking on her door.

More importantly, Mira had absolute faith in her own lethal capabilities.

"No, you are never going to a place that dangerous ever again." Eleanor wiped her tears. "We have millions of dollars now. If someone tries to cross you, we can just hire professionals to handle them."

"I know, Grandma. Don't worry, I won't take risks like that again. Honestly, people exaggerated the danger. Once we actually got there, it was basically just like living back home. It wasn't some warzone. The locals just go about their daily lives."

Mira purposely downplayed the bloodbath to keep the older woman from stressing out.

"If home is so great, then stop jet-setting into danger and giving me a heart attack," Eleanor shot back.

As people got older, they just wanted their loved ones safe and close by.

"A real man's ambition lies out in the world. What's the point of hiding at home?" Jordan argued, unwilling to let that slide.

"But my Mira isn't a man, so why does she need to go out risking her life?" Eleanor threw a sharp glare at the martial arts master, heavily implying that this entire dangerous Balkana trip was his fault.

Jordan was left entirely speechless.

He opened his mouth to defend himself, but the older woman had already snapped her gaze toward Owen.

"Owen, what is wrong with your arm?"

Despite wearing a long-sleeved shirt, the distinct, unnatural bulge on his forearm hadn't escaped Eleanor's sharp eyes.
