Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 1042

Seeing Mira agree to his request, Mr. Milton beamed with joy. "Don't worry, Boss. From now on, your wish is my command.

I'll go source those herbs for you right away."

After Mr. Milton left, Hank Whitlock chimed in, "So basically, if you hadn't agreed to the medicine deal, he wouldn't have helped us buy the herbs."

Owen shrugged. "People like him are the easiest to control."

He liked to take advantage of small perks. As long as his little desires were satisfied, he was more than willing to get things done. He was far easier to deal with than someone with deep, hidden agendas.

After their meal, since the herbs hadn't arrived yet and they couldn't start refining the medicine, Mira decided to visit the victim sanctuary. She needed to help Celine Ward locate Sienna Stanford and her mother.

She had been so caught up in the fighting over the past few days that she hadn't had the time.

"Owen, you're injured. You should just stay at the inn to rest. I'll take the bodyguards."

"No way. We aren't back home. It's too chaotic out here."

Especially since they had just wiped out The Vane Syndicate, various underground factions were getting restless. It was anything but safe.

Mira looked out at the pouring rain and asked the receptionist, "Does it rain here often?"

"Yes, it's the rainy season right now. It rains every other day.

You guys actually got lucky. It's been sunny the whole time you've been here. Today is the first day the weather finally broke."

It was true that handling business in the rain was a massive inconvenience. At the very least, it made everything significantly more miserable.

The receptionist was the same girl from before, but her attitude was infinitely better than when Mira and the others had first arrived.

As they spoke, Mira picked up her phone, intending to call the driver they had rescued earlier, when the receptionist asked, "Are you heading out?"

Seeing Mira nod, she quickly offered, "Our boss left instructions. If you need to go anywhere, you can use his car."

"Thanks. We appreciate it."

Right now, only Mavarian victims are inside."

The guard led Mira's group to the records room, where they unexpectedly ran into Harvey Rivers and his sister, Natalie.

"Mira, we finally get to see you! We've been working to death these past two days."

Seeing Mira, Natalie immediately rushed over and linked her arm through hers.

"We only managed to sort out the foreigners and send them off yesterday afternoon. Then we had to register everyone else, one by one.

Just think about it. There are so many people here, and most of them barely have clothes on. Eating, dressing, doing anything is a massive logistical nightmare. Plus, most of them aren't even mentally stable anymore..."

Harvey said, his voice weak with exhaustion.

"I swear, these past few days have been more exhausting than going to college and managing my company combined."

Mira offered a sympathetic smile. "Who has it easy? You guys weren't even on the battlefield. That's real exhaustion, with your life on the line every second.
