"Mom, why are you being so stubborn?" Giselle sighed dramatically. "You still won't forgive him? He really does care about us."
Turning to the guests, she added, "Stefan, Winona, help me talk some sense into her. I just want my parents to get along so we can finally feel like a complete family."
She severely miscalculated. Neither Stefan nor Winona had an ounce of patience for Sylvan.
Stefan didn't even look up. "You're an adult. It's time to cut the cord. There's no need to obsess over a 'complete family' aesthetic."
"Wynne has made it clear she doesn't want to see him," Winona added coolly. "Don't try to guilt-trip her. Given everything Sylvan has done, no sane person would forgive him. You wouldn't stomach eating garbage, right? Why force her to?"
Giselle choked on her words.
How could they speak to her like that?
Hearing Stefan and Winona shut her down so brutally, Wynne actually laughed.
"Giselle, go hand that seafood back to him right now," Wynne ordered. "I don't want a single thing from Sylvan Scully in my house."
Her face flushed with humiliation, Giselle grabbed the bags and marched outside.
Wynne then pulled out two jars of artisanal coffee beans and handed them to Winona. "Winona, these beans make an incredible cup of coffee. I saved these specifically for you."
"Thank you, Wynne."
When Giselle finally returned, her mood was visibly soured. She ate in sullen silence, completely dropping her bubbly act.
"Are you still mad at me?" Wynne asked mildly.
Taking the question as a sign that Wynne still valued her, Giselle seized the opportunity to advocate for Sylvan again. "Mom, I just think Dad has had a really hard life. He hasn't remarried all these years. It's lonely for him."
When she had gone outside to return the food, Sylvan had promised her that if she successfully brokered a reconciliation between him and Wynne, he would transfer a multi-million-dollar villa into her name.
Blinded by the prospect of prime real estate, Giselle was practically begging on his behalf.
Wynne's face remained stone-cold. Her voice dripped with mockery. "He didn't remarry, no. But he's been funding his mistress and their illegitimate son for decades. I heard the boy is already working an executive role at his company, being groomed to take over. Tell me, Giselle, you're his 'precious daughter'—did he ever promise to leave the company to you?"
Giselle froze.
There was zero chance Sylvan would hand his empire to a fake stand-in.
