The Wife He Forgot to Marry (Winona and Yule) novel Chapter 486

"Simone? Are you sick?"

Simone turned around, holding a stack of medical reports. "Not me, Forrest. A massive fire suddenly broke out on his office floor a few days ago. The flames were so intense he had to jump from the second-story window. He fractured his left leg. I'm just here to take care of him."

Winona was stunned. Since she considered Forrest Kane a friend, she immediately followed Simone to his room.

Seeing her walk in, Forrest smiled politely. "Ms. Jowett."

Winona asked about his condition and then brought up the fire. "Have they found out what caused it?"

Forrest frowned. "Not yet. It's strange—there were no flammable materials on our floor, and absolutely no one smokes in the office. I have no idea how a fire like that could have started."

Simone was practically fuming. "The most suspicious part is that Forrest was the only one in the office that day! Everyone else happened to be out. I seriously think someone was trying to murder him."

Forrest sighed, shaking his head. "Don't jump to conclusions. I run in a very simple circle. I haven't made any enemies. Why would anyone want me dead?"

But Winona couldn't shake the feeling that the whole situation was highly suspicious.

That night, she told Stefan everything.

"Do you think Forrest's 'accident' wasn't actually an accident?" she asked.

For some inexplicable reason, she felt a profound, natural closeness to Forrest and genuinely didn't want anything bad to happen to him.

Stefan's heart immediately sank as a dark theory formed in his mind.

But he kept his expression calm. "It's possible someone in his industry got jealous and decided to play dirty. If you're worried about him, I'll have someone look into it."

Winona was relieved he was willing to help. However, not wanting him to get jealous, she quickly clarified, "Forrest is just a friend. It's normal to worry when a friend gets hurt. Please don't overthink this."

Stefan chuckled and pressed a kiss to her lips. "Of course I won't overthink it."

Internally, he marveled at the power of blood ties. It was what made Mrs. Powell instantly adore Winona, and what naturally drew Winona and Forrest together as friends.

But if the person behind the fire knew Forrest's true identity, that meant they likely knew Winona's identity as well.

Which meant Winona was in grave danger.

His brows locked in a fierce scowl. He needed to order Ezra to double the security detail around Winona immediately.
