Doing the math in his head, Matteo realized he had given his mother roughly a hundred and fifty grand over the years. That was enough to keep him alive.

"Mom. Give me my money back. All of it."

But Cynthia had already blown most of it on her golden child, his younger brother. She didn't have the cash.

"How can you ask me for money?!" she shrieked. "Get it from Helena! She owns a business! She makes plenty! You're her man, she's obligated to keep you alive!"

Having just witnessed Helena ruthlessly dismantle him in court, Matteo knew his ex-wife would rather watch him burn than give him a penny. His mother was his only option. As the two of them began viciously tearing each other apart like rabid dogs, Winona and Helena quietly slipped out of the courtroom.

Once they were in the car, Helena let out a heavy sigh. "He wasn't always this evil. I guess people just change."

Winona pulled her into a hug. "It's over now. You're safe."

Thinking of Greta, Helena quickly shook off the gloom. "We won! That's all that matters. Let's go celebrate."

Winona, Helena, Greta, and Nikita headed to a nice restaurant near the courthouse. Once they sat down, Helena finally told Nikita everything.

"That family is completely shameless!" Nikita fumed. "They deserve every bit of karma they're getting!" She looked at Greta with deep sympathy.

Helena gently squeezed her mother's hand. "Mom, please. Let's not talk about this in front of Greta."

Despite hating the Slaters with every fiber of her being, Helena refused to poison her daughter's mind with constant resentment. She wanted Greta to grow up surrounded by love, not hatred.

"I know, I know," Nikita agreed.

Midway through the meal, Winona's phone rang. She stepped out into the hallway to take the call. As she hung up and turned back, she noticed two familiar figures arguing at the end of the corridor: Cynthia Sutton and Tallulah Shipley.

"Ms. Shipley, you promised you'd help us!" Cynthia begged, clutching Tallulah's sleeve. "You said you'd force Helena to take my son back! But we lost! And now my son is demanding his money back from me! You have to fix this. You can't just abandon us!"
