Sylvan and Quentin had been collaborating on a new project recently, so they'd been spending a lot of time together. Since they were both on good terms with Tallulah, she frequently joined them for dinner.
Both men had seen the news and were slightly taken aback. They admitted they might have underestimated Winona's capabilities, but neither believed she was the absolute genius the media portrayed her to be. The Goddard Group and Mr. Harper's lab were packed with top-tier talent; as far as they were concerned, Winona was likely just riding the coattails of better scientists, artificially elevated by someone with deep pockets.
In their eyes, Tallulah was still the superior talent. Plus, they were both still convinced Winona had played dirty during the livestream incident.
So, when they crossed paths with her, their expressions remained frosty.
They exchanged brief, polite nods with Nolan Archer and headed back to their own private room. Winona didn't spare them a second glance, walking toward the elevators with Nolan.
As they reached the elevator bank, they ran straight into Glenda and Margaret.
The memory of Stefan turning his back on her for Winona was still painfully fresh. Throwing all sense of high-society decorum out the window, Margaret exploded the second she saw her. "You manipulated Stefan into fighting with me! You deliberately sabotaged our relationship! You vicious, shameless little tramp!"
Winona didn't just stand there and take it. She fired back with icy precision. "You have that completely backward. Stefan fought with you because you drugged him and violated his trust. That has absolutely nothing to do with me."
Margaret sneered. "How is it not your fault? You're the one seducing him, making it impossible for him to be with Ophelia. You are the root of all of this!"
Winona's expression remained perfectly composed, completely unfazed by the older woman's hysteria. "Stefan and I love each other."
"A girl from your background doesn't deserve him!"
"I didn't choose where I come from," Winona replied smoothly. "But to be perfectly honest, I know how to love him far better than you or Ophelia ever could."
Margaret let out a sharp, mocking laugh. "Love? What good is love?"
Winona tilted her head, asking softly, "Have you ever been unconditionally loved, Margaret? Has anyone ever truly supported you without wanting something in return?"
Of all the wealthy women Winona had met, only Violet Goddard and Mrs. Powell possessed genuine grace and class. They never looked down on people based on their backgrounds. Winona guessed that aside from their education, they possessed an inner peace because they had experienced real, unconditional love. They were secure enough that they didn't need to vomit toxic energy onto everyone else.
