Hearing her words, a shadow passed over Quentin's face.
He had given far more of himself than Yulen ever did, yet Tallulah had never chosen him. Love, he realized bitterly, wasn't bound by logic or fairness.

When Winona arrived at her apartment complex, she spotted Yulen waiting near the entrance. He was leaning against his car, the streetlights casting long shadows that highlighted his tall, broad-shouldered frame.
Winona's brow furrowed. The last thing she wanted was to deal with him.
Spotting her, Yulen immediately closed the distance between them.
"Winona, you and Nikita moved out without even telling me? We're practically family. What's wrong with letting me take care of you both?"
"No thanks," Winona replied coldly.
Yulen let out an exasperated sigh and pulled a velvet jewelry box from his pocket. "I know you're still mad at me about what happened with Greta. But I swear, I had nothing to do with it. I only found a lawyer for that supplier because of our old business ties. How was I supposed to know he'd do something so incredibly stupid? Look... I bought you a gift. Just take it, and let's put this behind us. Okay?"
Winona didn't even glance at the necklace. "I don't have the energy to play your games. Take your gift and leave."
"It was just a minor misunderstanding. Do you really have to drag this out?"
The second the words left his mouth, white-hot fury spiked in Winona's veins.
A child was hospitalized with severe food poisoning, and he called it a *minor misunderstanding*?
Without a second thought, she slapped him hard across the face.
Yulen recoiled, shocked that she had resorted to violence again. He gritted his teeth, his anger flaring. "When did you become so violent, Winona?"
"It's just a little slap. Surely the great Mr. Locke doesn't need to overreact?" she fired back, her voice dripping with ice.
Yulen took a deep breath, trying to rein in his temper so they could actually communicate.
Before he could speak, his phone started ringing. It was Quentin. Frowning, he answered it.
"Yulen. Tallulah is at the hospital. Are you coming or not?" Quentin's voice was laced with open hostility. "If you don't show up, I'm taking that as proof your relationship is dead. And when I take her from you, you'll have no one to blame but yourself."
Knowing how busy Winona was with work, Nikita didn't bother telling her granddaughter about her scheduled follow-up appointment. She simply went to the hospital with her hired caregiver.
After picking up her prescription, Nikita was heading toward the exit when she suddenly spotted Yulen in the lobby. Her face instantly hardened into stone.
Having been stuck at home lately, unable to do chores, Nikita had picked up the habit of scrolling through short videos to pass the time. She had seen the viral clip of Yulen brawling over another woman.
The woman in the video was heavily pregnant—practically due any day. The fact that Yulen was so fiercely protective over her all but confirmed the child was his.
Hah. Clearly, those two had been sleeping together for a very long time behind Winona's back.
Yulen was utter scum. Just seeing his face made her blood boil.
Yulen, entirely oblivious to her wrath, approached her with a bright, eager smile. "Nikita! You're here for a checkup? Why didn't you tell me? If I had known, I would've personally escorted you."
Nikita let out a chilling sneer. "I wouldn't dare trouble you. Don't you have your woman and child to attend to?"
Yulen froze, instantly realizing she had seen the video. He quickly scrambled for an excuse, plastering on a reassuring smile. "You've got it all wrong, Nikita. That girl is Tallulah. Winona knows her too—we both just treat her like a little sister. The baby isn't mine. I only went to the hospital last night because some aggressive stalker was harassing her, and I had to step in."
