The Wife He Forgot to Marry (Winona and Yule) novel Chapter 287

She thought about how she and Stefan had essentially been in a state of no-contact lately, and an indescribable ache settled heavily in her chest.

"No, we just know each other," she said, trying to keep her tone as light as possible.

Noticing the shift in Winona's expression, Simone realized she had crossed a line and anxiously ran a hand through her hair.

She quickly changed the subject, spilling a romantic dilemma she had never shared with anyone else.

"Actually, my love life has been a total disaster lately too. I really like this guy, but he keeps rejecting me. I know I should just let it go, but I can't bring myself to."

Winona found it baffling. Simone was incredibly talented, openly pursued the guy she liked, and was still getting rejected?

There was really only one logical explanation.

"Does he have a girlfriend?"

Simone shook her head. "I asked around. He doesn't like anyone else."

Winona asked, "Then what reason did he give for rejecting you?"

"He said he comes from a really modest background. He has a deaf mother... He basically said we come from two completely different worlds." Whenever Simone recalled his cold rejection, her eyes welled up with tears.

It was the first time she had ever liked someone this much, and he hadn't even given her a chance.

Winona was stunned.

Based on Simone's description, the gap between a wealthy heiress like her and this man was staggering.

Before Winona could protest, Simone dragged her to the car.

The two drove to Riverton University.

Simone practically smuggled Winona onto the campus, crouching outside a laboratory window. She pointed to a tall, lean figure inside and whispered, "His name is Forrest Kane. He just got his PhD in Artificial Intelligence from Riverton University, and he's now an associate professor here."

Winona glanced up and saw the young man through the glass. He wore silver-rimmed glasses, possessing an effortless, dark academia aesthetic—sharp features, deeply intelligent eyes, and an aura of intense scholarly restraint.

Looking like a model carved by the gods while having a top-tier intellect... no wonder an heiress like Simone was throwing herself at him.

But Winona couldn't shake the feeling that he looked familiar. Had she seen him somewhere before?

Simone looked at Forrest, then turned back to Winona, her eyes suddenly widening in realization. "I knew it! No wonder I liked you from the moment we met. Winona, don't you think you two have similar eyes and noses? Even your vibes are kind of alike."
