The Wife He Forgot to Marry (Winona and Yule) novel Chapter 265

Camille wanted her help poaching Zack for Locke Group, offering a hefty two hundred thousand dollar bonus.

Winona firmly believed that if a bright kid like Zack ended up at Locke Group under Tallulah's incompetent management, his career would be ruined.

She immediately declined.

Camille tried calling her, but Winona ignored the call.

Zack dropped off her aunt, cousin, and grandmother first, saving Winona for last.

When he pulled up to her upscale apartment building, he was visibly surprised.

"Winona, this is your place?"

Winona saw no reason to hide it. "Yes. It was a gift from my 'ex-husband'."

"You're divorced?" Zack's eyes went wide.

Winona nodded.

It could technically be considered a "divorce."

After a brief moment of shock, Zack mentally recalibrated.

Winona was gorgeous; it was completely natural that she'd been pursued and loved before.

He was only mad that he had been born a few years too late.

And so what if she was divorced? He liked her, and he couldn't care less about her past.

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have brought up bad memories," Zack apologized earnestly.

Winona thought about the arrogant kid she'd met during his interview; this nervous, sweet version of him was like a completely different person.

She smiled gently. "Thank you for driving me home today. Head back and get some rest."

"Yeah, anytime."

Zack desperately wanted to project a mature, suave aura, but his youth betrayed him, making him look hopelessly endearing instead.

Winona waved goodbye.

She waited until his car pulled away before heading inside.

Just as she reached her door, the door across the hall swung open.

Stefan stood there in black loungewear, waving his left hand slightly. "Winona, can you do me a favor?"

Seeing the bandages on his left hand completely tangled, she realized he had been trying to change his dressings and failed.

She nodded and followed him into his apartment.

Stefan asked casually, "Who dropped you off today?"

Winona looked up at him, puzzled.

She instantly understood Stefan's visible annoyance.

Being relentlessly stalked because of your looks was something she had far too much experience with.

Stefan immediately rejected the call.

He turned to Winona. "I'm leaving on a business trip tomorrow for three days. If you need anything, call me."

Winona glanced at his hand. "Your hand hasn't fully healed yet. Make sure you get enough rest."

Stefan smiled. "I'm fine. It won't get in the way."

After leaving Stefan's apartment, Winona received a call from Jericho Harper.

Mr. Harper got straight to the point: "Winona, there's an Innovative Pharmaceutical R&D Summit next Tuesday evening. Something came up and I can't make it, so you're going in my place. Dress professionally; you'll be giving a speech on stage."

Winona was stunned. "Mr. Harper, is that really appropriate?"

The people invited to speak at these summits were all industry heavyweights. As merely one of Mr. Harper's students, she didn't have the credentials.

Anticipating her hesitation, Mr. Harper laughed. "I sent your papers and research data to the organizers, and they completely recognize your talent. Just go. It's the perfect opportunity to show the industry exactly what you're capable of."

Unable to refuse, Winona agreed.

The days flew by until the evening of the summit.
