Mine to Shield (2)
ELIJAH’S POV:
“You are famous and an athlete. Let me shine, Uncle Jacob.” He said in a commanding tone and I bursted out in laughter and Jacob raised his hand in surrender.
“Come on! Let’s go.” He dashed out and I loved him seeing energetic as most of the time, his eyes were glued to a book or he was playing with his sister.
Let’s go flyers!
We were talking the blue sports car and I was just happy seeing how my son was getting. I spoke to the security as they trooped into the car.
I was informed that the other security and driver was waiting with my daughter and Hannah, and they would going to watch a movie or do something girly next.
I loved how we were having a girls day and a boys day.
It felt so surreal how life changed fast.
“Elijah! Hurry!” Andrew called out and I let out a breath and Jacob retorted mocking Andrew’s accent, “You heard him, Elijah!”
I laughed seeing him squinting his eyes at Jacob and got into the car, and zoomed off.
The arena roared with life. The noise, the chants, the lights.. it all buzzed through the air like electricity.
Andrew couldn’t sit still. He jumped every time the Flyers made a move, his small hands gripping the edge of his seat like the game depended on him. Jacob and I exchanged amused glances as he kept muttering stats under his breath like a mini commentator. But halfway through the third quarter, the Flyers started losing. Andrew’s excitement dimmed, and his shoulders drooped. He crossed his arms, glaring at the ice rink as though his anger could make the players skate faster.
Jacob had gone to get us snacks and drinks adjusting his hats and wearing his dark shades in order to get recognized.
I let out a breath and musterred confidence leaning down and softly said, “Hey, champ.”
He didn’t look at me and just remained crossing his arms and frowning deeply “They’re going to lose.
I nodded in confirmation feeling Jacob’s presence as he took a seat “Anything,”
He leaned closer squinting his eyes. “Even if I ask you to wear my smelly flyers jersey for a whole week?”
Jacob snorted and coughed, and said “Oh, please say yes to that.”
I nodded solemnly. “Anything you want.”
The change was immediate. Andrew’s grin came back, and he started cheering louder than anyone in our section, waving his sign like the most excited man here. His joy was infectious, and I felt myself getting pulled into the rhythm, shouting and clapping until my voice went hoarse.
And when the Flyers scored the winning goal in the final seconds, Andrew screamed so loudly Jacob had to cover his ears.
“They did it! I told you!”
