Anne absolutely insisted on coming along, so Felicia had Mabel pack up their breakfast into some Tupperware containers to take with them.
Upon arriving at the hospital, Max was immediately whisked away for an emergency examination.
Anne sat nervously on a bench in the hallway, completely lacking the appetite to eat.
"Daddy's just having some stomach pain. He'll be better soon. Don't worry," Felicia comforted her gently.
But Anne remained deeply distressed, her little head drooping. "Daddy just got out of the hospital. The doctor told him to eat well and rest well, but he hasn't been resting at all. I want him to stay at Mommy's house to rest, but he has to leave again."
Felicia stroked Anne's head, trying to soothe her. "He is going to be perfectly fine."
Anne tilted her head up, looking pleadingly at Felicia. "Mommy, can you please tell Daddy to stay here until he gets all better?"
"That depends entirely on what he wants to do."
"If you ask him to stay, he will definitely stay," Anne declared with absolute certainty.
Felicia found it utterly impossible to say no to her daughter. "Alright, I will ask him later."
"Okay."
"Now, how about you eat a little something? You can't stay here on an empty stomach."
Anne nodded obediently.
Felicia peeled a hard-boiled egg for her first.
By the time Anne finished the egg, Max had completed his tests and was moved to a private room to receive an IV drip. It was a severe flare-up of acute gastritis. The condition had triggered two days prior, but because he hadn't taken his medication as prescribed, it had violently resurfaced.
He lay pale and exhausted on the hospital bed.
The attending physician delivered a few stern instructions before exiting the room.
Felicia and Anne stood faithfully by his side.
"Daddy," Anne whispered, her big eyes brimming with worried tears.
Max weakly reached out to stroke her hair. "Daddy's fine, sweetheart."
Felicia crossed her arms. "You are responsible for your health. Since you're sick, shouldn't you know how to rest and take your medicine properly?"
Max leveled his gaze at her. "And watch Anne cry without doing anything about it?"
Felicia swallowed her frustration, choosing not to argue with him. She unfolded the overbed table, set out the Tupperware containers, and arranged the food. "Eat your breakfast first."
Max watched her, offering no further complaints.
Felicia handed him a spoon, which he accepted.
"Where's yours?" he asked.
Felicia shot him a look. "You're the patient."
Her unspoken message was clear: worry about yourself before trying to micromanage anyone else.
Naturally, Anne missed the subtle hostility entirely.
Max let out a low chuckle. "You really do hold a grudge."
Felicia couldn't be bothered to entertain him.
Since Anne had only eaten a single egg so far, Felicia placed a few mini pancakes into a small bowl. Anne sat on a little stool by the bed, obediently eating her breakfast.

Oh nooo!! Don’t tell me Max will get washed ashore on a remote island then loses all his memory, then falls inlove with the local girl who saves him. Then when he meets Felicia again he won’t recognize her and breaks her heart again. Additional plot twist is that Felicia is pregnant with their 2nd child. Please pleaseee don’t give us this scenario.. LOL!!!...
If Max can be forgiven Darrin can be forgiven. And I do not like this marriage business but if it has to happen I hope after he gets stranded on some remote island alone while Felicia and his family fight over custody she wins and also gets half his estate. Then by time he comes back she's found having and remarried. Lol...
The writer is good. They're making me interested in Max. I won't say like yet....
It seems the only one who hasn't suffered is Max. Even his family fakes anger and disappointment all their own doing so they suffer a little. Everyone else has suffered. Luke and Jeremy unrequited. Felicia has suffered the most from family to unrequited to romance to long suffering Mother. Even baby Anne never had a mother til Felicia suffered then came back only to suffer some more. lol...
Oh no what did Colton do?... I have a bone to pick. When Olisha had to go the hospital why beg for Felicia? When she so loved Max? Seemed like she was in on the setup for Felicia to see a suicide for the 2nd time orchestrated by holden and his brother again. I might drop this series it's becoming endless with no real satisfaction for me. I don't need it to end because it's like a soap opera but if things don't end up making sense, tying up loose storylines it's gonna get old fast for me. Good luck author....
Anne, I think your baby brother is on the way. Thank goodness it doesn't say that Felicia is crying just like the last time but still, there's no willingness on her part. Max! You need to try harder. Make her fall in love with you again....
