Once she was ready, Felicia stepped out of the bedroom. Max was waiting outside. When he saw her emerge, his gaze fell squarely upon her, entirely unapologetic in its intensity. The moment Felicia met his eyes, she instinctively averted her gaze.
He walked up to her, a smile touching his lips. "You look beautiful."
Felicia offered no response to his praise. The man retrieved a small velvet box from his suit pocket and pulled out a diamond ring. Taking her hand, he slipped it onto her right ring finger. A matching diamond ring already rested on the ring finger of his left hand.
"I know you have a temper, so I took the liberty of wearing mine already," he murmured.
Felicia shot him a cool glance. "At least you are self-aware."
Max chuckled softly. "You really are hard to please."
Felicia ignored him.
"Let us go." Max laced his fingers through hers and led her out of the apartment.
They took the elevator down to the ground floor, where a Rolls-Royce was already waiting for them. Max helped her into the car while a staff member carefully arranged the train of her gown. Half an hour later, the vehicle arrived at the hotel hosting the gala. Stepping out of the car, Max guided her inside. The banquet hall was the epitome of extravagance. Elegant guests milled about, and the scent of expensive perfume mingled with the intoxicating aroma of fine wine that hung heavy in the air, creating an atmosphere dripping with opulence and indulgence. Truthfully, Felicia had never been fond of such events.
Max noticed her lack of enthusiasm, gently squeezing her hand. "We will not stay long. We will head back as soon as it is appropriate."
Gavin glared at him, clearly offended. "What is that supposed to mean? Sure, you are handsome, but what good is that? Look at Evelynn. She has lost so much weight staying by your side. Do you really have the nerve to criticize me?"
When Gavin first laid eyes on Felicia tonight, he immediately noticed she was visibly thinner compared to the last time he had seen her. Max stared at him, offering no response.
Gavin turned back to Felicia. "Evelynn, is this guy mistreating you? Let me tell you, a woman should never settle for less. You absolutely must not submit to him. Listen to me, you need to teach him a lesson first. Crush his arrogance, watch how he behaves, and then decide if you want to accept him. Otherwise, this guy is just going to get more conceited. What if he gets upset one day and dumps you all over again?"
The expression on Max's face visibly darkened, his voice dropping an octave as he warned, "Gavin, you are talking far too much."
Gavin was completely unfazed. Seeing Max frustrated brought him immense satisfaction. This guy was always far too pretentious. "What? I am just passing on some valuable experience to Evelynn. Why are you getting so mad? Did I hit a nerve? Are you actually planning to dump Evelynn in the future?"

Oh nooo!! Don’t tell me Max will get washed ashore on a remote island then loses all his memory, then falls inlove with the local girl who saves him. Then when he meets Felicia again he won’t recognize her and breaks her heart again. Additional plot twist is that Felicia is pregnant with their 2nd child. Please pleaseee don’t give us this scenario.. LOL!!!...
If Max can be forgiven Darrin can be forgiven. And I do not like this marriage business but if it has to happen I hope after he gets stranded on some remote island alone while Felicia and his family fight over custody she wins and also gets half his estate. Then by time he comes back she's found having and remarried. Lol...
The writer is good. They're making me interested in Max. I won't say like yet....
It seems the only one who hasn't suffered is Max. Even his family fakes anger and disappointment all their own doing so they suffer a little. Everyone else has suffered. Luke and Jeremy unrequited. Felicia has suffered the most from family to unrequited to romance to long suffering Mother. Even baby Anne never had a mother til Felicia suffered then came back only to suffer some more. lol...
Oh no what did Colton do?... I have a bone to pick. When Olisha had to go the hospital why beg for Felicia? When she so loved Max? Seemed like she was in on the setup for Felicia to see a suicide for the 2nd time orchestrated by holden and his brother again. I might drop this series it's becoming endless with no real satisfaction for me. I don't need it to end because it's like a soap opera but if things don't end up making sense, tying up loose storylines it's gonna get old fast for me. Good luck author....
Anne, I think your baby brother is on the way. Thank goodness it doesn't say that Felicia is crying just like the last time but still, there's no willingness on her part. Max! You need to try harder. Make her fall in love with you again....
