Gideon's hand froze in mid-air. "I was a bit harsh just now. Don't take it to heart."
"Of course, I wouldn't hold that against you." Claire shifted her gaze, locking her sights entirely on Edna. "But although she is merely a second wife, her every move is tied to the Ashworth family. She completely insulted Juno today. Aren't you afraid the Corringtons will come after us?"
Claire's tone and demeanor were a spitting image of Juno's.
"Juno let it slide with one slap as a favor to me. If I hadn't been there, she could have wiped the Ashworth family off the map by tomorrow, just like she did to the Webb family."
The sheer speed at which the Webb family had been obliterated had shocked the entire business elite.
Multiple powerful forces had completely severed their lifelines overnight.
Rumor had it that even players from Blackwood City were involved.
Looking at it that way, the Corrington family's power was utterly terrifying.
Gideon thought it over and nodded. "I was too short-sighted. You did the right thing today."
Edna opened her mouth to speak, but hesitated.
Gideon shot her a nasty glare. "You're completely useless. You were perfectly willing to offend the Corringtons just for Faye? Get upstairs and think long and hard about how you're going to behave from now on."
"Yes..." Edna replied, seething with resentment as she headed upstairs, shooting Claire one last venomous glare before she disappeared.
Only after she was gone did Gideon look back at Claire. "That contract?"
Claire handed it over.
Gideon's mood improved tremendously.
The next day, Claire recounted the entire event to Juno, word for word.
When she finished, Claire earnestly thanked her again. "Thank you."
That contract had completely validated her worth in her father's eyes.
"Don't mention it."
The two of them walked side by side across the campus. "There's a Kingsland University mixer tonight," Claire mentioned. "Want to go check it out?"
These kinds of parties were common. Students from both universities would get together to eat, drink, and hang out.
It was basically a networking mixer.
Simply put, it was a loosely organized social event meant to build friendships and connections between the students.
Fearing Juno might decline, Claire linked her arm through hers. "Come with me~ I'll feel awkward going alone."
"Alright."
That evening, the two girls took a cab to the venue.
