"You can barely protect yourself, yet you can't stand seeing others get hurt," Juno remarked.
...
That afternoon, Juno handed Claire a contract. "This is the Corrington family's latest hospitality contract. Take it back and give it to your father."
Claire took it with both hands, looking slightly stunned. "You didn't do this just for me..."
"I did," Juno replied flatly.
Claire bit her lip, hesitated for a moment, and then tried to push the contract back. "I know exactly what state the Ashworth family is in right now. We don't have the qualifications to sign a contract with the Corringtons."
She couldn't let the Corrington family take a loss on her account.
"If the Corringtons were that easily dragged down by one company, how do you think they survive in a place like Kingsland?"
It made sense.
But...
Juno shot her an impatient glare. "Just take it and go. You're annoying me."
Claire understood what Juno was really doing. She accepted the contract and said earnestly, "Thank you."
That evening, Claire brought the contract home.
The second she walked through the door, a heavy glass was hurled in her direction.
She dodged to the side, and the glass shattered against the floor.
She looked up, her expression frigid.
Gideon and Edna were sitting in the living room. The moment Claire looked up, she caught Edna's mocking glare, which practically screamed: *Little brat, I’d like to see you try and kick me out now.*
"You still have the nerve to come back?!" Gideon barked.
Claire gripped her purse and walked further into the room. "Why wouldn't I have the nerve to come back?"
