Rhiannon choked on her words, her face flushing with humiliation under the gossiping stares of the surrounding guests.
"Juno," Gwendolyn frowned, clearly displeased. She detested having these types of conversations aired out in such a public setting.
"It's fine, Mom. It's my fault for overstepping," Rhiannon said, gently tugging at Gwendolyn's dress like a wounded deer. "Juno is right, I spoke out of turn. I hope she can forgive me this once. I won't do it again."
Without Juno even saying another word, Rhiannon had successfully painted her as the villain.
Juno shot her a sideways glance, offered a brief farewell to Gwendolyn, and stated, "I'll be heading over there, then."
Her tone left absolutely no room for debate. Before Gwendolyn could even process a refusal, Juno had already pulled Chuck away toward the other side of the room.
Rhiannon had never been so publicly humiliated in front of Kingsland's elite. Her burning jealousy toward Juno deepened exponentially.
Just then, a whispered conversation nearby caught her attention.
"I recognize the dress Juno is wearing! It's fully handcrafted. When she walked past, I got a close look at the embroidery. It's exquisite. As far as I know, there's only one person in the world who can stitch like that."
"Who?" someone asked.
"Old Mrs. Corrington," the first voice replied with absolute certainty.
"Wow! Gerda must really adore her to personally hand-make a dress for her granddaughter!"
"Everyone knows the Corringtons are the undisputed titans of Kingsland's fashion industry, but few people realize Gerda actually founded this label in her youth. The brand has been an unbreakable empire for forty years."
Gerda was getting up there in years, and her eyesight was failing, yet she had still personally crafted a gown just for Juno.
Anyone with eyes could see that no matter what happened, Gerda was Juno's ultimate backer.
Rhiannon stared at Juno, her eyes practically bleeding with envy.
In the twenty years she had lived with the Corrington family, Gerda had never once made her a dress.
