"We haven't even found out the truth about what happened to Callahan, and you're already this impatient?!"
Talbot's jaw tightened. He hadn't expected the old man to be this resistant!
But then again, his father had always been like this—blindly devoted to his golden son and his perfect grandson, always treating Talbot like an afterthought.
If this was how he wanted to play it, then Talbot wouldn't hold back anymore!
The last trace of humanity vanished from Talbot's eyes. Dropping the act completely, he flicked his gaze toward the bodyguards.
The two men immediately grabbed Dante by the arms. It looked like they were respectfully "assisting" him, but their grips were vice-like, forcefully dragging him toward the bedroom.
"Talbot! You ungrateful bastard! Let go of me!" Dante thrashed wildly, but his aging body was no match for two highly trained brutes.
In the struggle, his heavy mahogany cane slipped from his grasp, clattering loudly against the hardwood floor.
"Dad, calm down. Getting agitated is terrible for your blood pressure." Talbot calmly bent down and picked up the cane, weighing it in his hand—a clear symbol of hijacked authority. His voice was completely devoid of emotion. "Once the situation outside is fully stabilized, I'll naturally give you your freedom back. Until then, you need to rest in your room."
Jarvis tried to push his way through, but the bodyguard shoved him back forcefully. "My apologies. The Chairman needs his rest. Mr. Langley ordered that no one is to disturb him."
A heavy thud echoed as the bedroom door was shut violently in Jarvis's face, followed immediately by the sharp click of the deadbolt locking from the outside.
Pressing his ear against the wood, Jarvis could hear Dante screaming furiously from inside, followed by the distinct sound of the windows being permanently locked shut.
Talbot walked out of the hallway, his face unreadable. He looked at the two bodyguards stationed at the door like prison wardens. "Watch him closely. Without my explicit permission, no one goes in, and he doesn't speak to anyone. Go in there and strip the room of his cell phone, the landline, and anything else he can use to contact the outside world."
"Yes, boss!" they replied in unison.
