The Prison-Made Queen novel Chapter 1002

A deathly silence fell over the room.

Dr. Watson’s hands paused. The hair on the back of his neck stood up as he realized something was terribly wrong.

Reese immediately took a step forward, sliding smoothly between Talbot and the doctor. Her tone was completely conversational, laced with a feigned, condescending warmth. "Dr. Watson, it really only looks worse than it is."

"You know the news about Callahan's accident has been a massive blow to him. He's had these little spells constantly lately. He'll probably wake up on his own in a few minutes."

She sighed, placing a hand over her heart. "Besides, he's so old and frail. Rushing him out, putting him through the chaos of an ambulance ride... the shock of it all might just kill him. You're his personal doctor, you know his body better than anyone. Why waste time handing him off to strangers? Just keep him comfortable and treat him here."

She stepped closer, her eyes flashing. "If you need the most advanced equipment, the most expensive drugs, just say the word. We'll have it flown in. We'll throw whatever money it takes to get him the best care right here in this room!"

On the surface, Reese sounded like a devoted daughter-in-law frantic with worry. But Dr. Watson wasn't stupid. If she actually cared about Dante's survival, she would have dialed 911 immediately, not summoned a private physician to handle a massive cardiac event in a living room.

Still, he was just an employee, completely out of the loop regarding the dark underbelly of the Langley family dynamics. He tried to reason with her delicately.

"Reese, this isn't about money or equipment. No matter how well I know his history, I'm only a general practitioner. For a massive heart attack, he has to be in an ER!"
