"If Callahan had just listened to me and cut ties with that Leilani—a girl with a questionable background and zero class—and settled down with a proper woman from a good family, he wouldn't be in this mess. He wouldn't have been dragged out to that lawless wasteland to get himself killed."
Reese let out an overly dramatic sigh, dabbing delicately at her tearless eyes. She shook her head in mock pity. "Honestly, some women look sweet, but they're pure poison. Ever since Leilani showed up, it's been nothing but chaos. She's a jinx. Anyone who gets close to her ends up ruined. Callahan was such a bright boy... but she completely brainwashed him, and now look where it got him. It breaks my heart just thinking about it."
"Shut up! Shut your mouth, Reese!" Letty shook violently, her vision spotting with black. She looked ready to lunge across the room and claw Reese's eyes out. "Don't you dare stand there and spew your toxic lies! I know exactly who Leilani is, and she is ten thousand times purer than a cold-blooded snake like you!"
"Enough!" Dante slammed his hand on the desk, the massive thud rattling the cups.
His eyes were wide with fury, his chest heaving. He leveled a lethal glare at his daughter-in-law. "Reese! This is the Langley estate, and I won't have you standing in my study spewing your toxic lies and stirring up chaos!"
He then whipped his head toward Talbot, who had remained silently brooding in the background. Dante's voice was absolute ice, dripping with disgust and bitter clarity. "Talbot! You're just going to stand there and let your wife smear your missing nephew and his girl? You think I'm too old and blind to see exactly what you're trying to pull?"
Leaning heavily on his cane, the old man slowly but powerfully rose to his feet. Though his aged frame trembled from the rage, the sheer, crushing authority of his presence filled the room, forcing the board members to instinctively hold their breath.
His gaze swept over Letty's pale face before settling back on his father, his tone chillingly calculating. "I am the only capable male heir left in the direct line. Callahan is... gone. That's a given. If you don't hand the company over to me, who are you going to give it to? An outsider? Or maybe..."
He dragged the word out, shooting a degrading, mocking look at Letty, who could barely stand.
"...Are you going to give it to her?"
