"But the business world runs on reality and efficiency. The truth is, the company is completely rudderless. Every minute we bleed is costing us millions. We have to—"
Before he could finish, the study doors were violently thrown open, slamming against the wall with a deafening crash!
Letty stood in the doorway, her face as pale as a ghost, her chest heaving violently. It was obvious she had heard every word. She clutched her phone so tightly her knuckles were white, the sickening headline on the screen glowing like a poisoned blade.
Her eyes locked onto Talbot and Reese, burning with a mix of pure devastation and homicidal rage. Every word was ripped through her teeth.
"Are you... are you really this desperate? My son is missing. We don't even know if he's dead! And you're already breaking down the door to steal his company? Or maybe... you're the ones who planted that news?"
Startled by the murderous aura radiating from Letty, Reese flinched, instinctively dropping Talbot's arm and taking a step back.
Talbot furrowed his brow, looking deeply pained and offended. "Letty! Please calm down! I know you're completely distraught and not thinking straight, but we're only here for the sake of the company! We don't have any ulterior motives! How could you even accuse us of that?"
"Shut up, Talbot!"
Letty screamed, cutting him off. All the terror, despair, and fury she had suppressed finally exploded. Tears streamed down her face, but she didn't care, glaring at him with bloodshot eyes. "Don't stand there shedding crocodile tears! You think I don't know exactly what you're plotting? You're praying my son never comes back!"
She whipped her head toward the board members, her voice raw and hoarse but dripping with the unbreakable resolve of a mother backed into a corner. "Listen to me, all of you! As long as I am breathing, no one is taking my son's seat! The CEO of the Langley Group is Callahan Langley—past, present, and future! If any of you try to steal his legacy, you'll have to step over my dead body!"
Her voice wasn't loud, but it cut through the silence like a scalpel, perfectly aimed at Letty's most vulnerable wounds.
"Letty, we get that you're upset, but you can't just throw wild accusations around."
"Do you honestly think we're doing this for ourselves? We're doing this for the Langley family. For the thousands of people who rely on us."
"Besides..."
She dragged out the word, her gaze slowly raking over Letty's pale, exhausted face with unfiltered disgust. She pretended to choose her next words carefully, but she knew exactly where to twist the knife.
