The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 501

Jocelyn shot Adrian a glare. "Who told you that?"

"It doesn't matter who told me. I just want to know—do you have feelings for Julian?"

"I don't—"

Wait! Why was she even answering his question? It was absurd.

"No comment," she said flatly.

Adrian's gaze was fixed on her. "So, you do like him?"

"You're a psycho!" Jocelyn snapped, spinning on her heel to leave.

Adrian stepped into her path, blocking her. "Explain yourself."

Jocelyn lost her temper. "Fine, I like him! I like every man on earth! Are you happy now?"

"Jocelyn!" Adrian yelled in frustration. "Is it really that hard for you to just tell me the truth?"

"Yes!" Jocelyn's eyes blazed with accusation. "Just like it was so incredibly hard for me to hear a single word of truth from you back then!"

Adrian froze. By the time he recovered, Jocelyn was already gone. He let out a bitter chuckle. This woman knew exactly how to render him defenseless. The moment she brought up the past, he had no counterargument. After all, he owed her deeply.

Jocelyn walked past the nurse's station. The Attending Nurse called out to her, "Miss Lowell, the patient just woke up."

Jocelyn needed to run downstairs to buy some supplies, but she was worried Nina might be terrified waking up alone. She asked the nurse to keep an eye on her.

"Thank you. Also, does the hospital provide caretakers?" she asked. She had to get back to work eventually and couldn't stay by Nina's bedside all day and night.

Nina blinked, staring at her in confusion. "Am I in the Underworld? Who are you? Are you a grim reaper?"

A wave of sadness washed over Jocelyn. How did a thirteen-year-old know such morbid terms? The poor girl must have realized she was dying and researched the afterlife online.

Jocelyn offered her a warm, luminous smile. "Are grim reapers really this pretty in the Underworld?"

Nina thought about it. Her mind was likely still foggy. After a long moment, she shook her head. "No."

"Silly girl," Jocelyn said, gently tapping her nose. "Where did you read all this?"

"Online," Nina replied, her breathing slightly uneven but her tone dead serious. "The internet says that when people die, they go to the Underworld. There are thirteen stages. The first is the entrance, the second is the path to the Underworld full of spider lilies, the third is The Terrace of Last Goodbyes, and the fourth is The Ridge of Lost Hounds... I want to go to The Ridge of Lost Hounds."

Jocelyn grabbed a cotton swab, dipped it in water, and began moistening Nina's dry lips as she patiently kept her talking.
