The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 465

Just then, Dr. Finch's wife brought over a plate of fruit and looked at Jocelyn with a warm, grandmotherly smile.

"My husband brings you up all the time. He always talks about how you used to represent the university in international competitions and brought so much glory to the school."

Jocelyn barely heard the praise. Her entire mind was consumed by Dr. Finch's last sentence.

Dr. Finch had paused on purpose. Seeing her anxious expression, he chuckled like an old trickster.

"Actually, I'd like to ask you something first. After all these years, why the sudden interest in the past?"

Jocelyn didn't hide anything and told him the truth.

"I currently work at Julian's company. There are just some things I need to clear up."

"You want to clear up whether or not he loves you?"

"Yes."

Dr. Finch took a slow sip of his tea.

"Back then, his answer was no."

Hearing that response, Jocelyn couldn't put her current feelings into words.

It wasn't disappointment. It certainly wasn't sadness.

It was just a very strange feeling.

"He might have said no, but the emotion in his eyes whenever he mentioned you couldn't be faked."

Dr. Finch laughed softly. "As someone who has lived a long life, if I couldn't see through a young man's heart, I'd have lived all these decades in vain."

As she was leaving, Dr. Finch offered some heartfelt advice.

"That young man is a rare catch. He is worthy of you. If you have feelings for him too, don't let him slip away."

Jocelyn's mind was a chaotic mess.

She called Sarah, but no one answered.

Pulling her car over to the side of the road, she sat there, completely unsure of where to go. It wasn't until Sarah called her back that she realized she had been spacing out for half an hour.

Sarah's voice sounded weak and lethargic.

"Jo, what's up?"

"Are you feeling sick?"

Sarah twirled a strand of hair around her finger, her tone indifferent. "How is it not like me? This is exactly who I am."

"You'd never let your place get this messy, you don't drink alone when you're upset, and you definitely wouldn't call out of work for no reason."

"I didn't call out for no reason. I'm just tired and didn't want to go in."

"Are you physically tired, or emotionally exhausted?"

Sarah's hand paused. "Both."

"Is this about Liam?"

Sarah scoffed. "Who does he think he is? Why would I waste my energy being mad at him?"

Jocelyn sighed softly. "Sarah, I know Liam's temper."

Liam was notoriously stubborn and arrogant; he never easily backed down or apologized to anyone. For him to take the initiative and apologize meant he genuinely valued their friendship. Unfortunately, Sarah hadn't realized that and refused to give him a way out.

"He's already conceded so much to you. Why do you have to..."

"Jo," Sarah interrupted impatiently.
