Ethan didn't even have to think about it.
"I wouldn't say he loves them. If they're on the table, he'll have a piece or two, but he never goes out of his way to ask for them."
Jocelyn's heart gave a slight tremble.
"Are you sure?"
"Why wouldn't I be? I crash at his place all the time. Whatever he eats, I eat. I know his dietary habits better than anyone."
But Julian had said he loved spare ribs, which was why he asked Penelope to teach him how to make them...
After Ethan left, Jocelyn did two things.
First, she transferred the money to Julian.
Second, she called Dr. Finch to arrange a meeting.
Dr. Finch told her on the phone that he was leaving for a trip with his wife the next day, so he only had time today.
Jocelyn decided to head over right after work, then visit Sarah afterward.
Julian's message arrived.
Just two words.
[Payment received.]
Jocelyn didn't reply. What was there to say?
She finished her work early and packed up her things as soon as the clock hit the end of the day.
On her way out, she ran into Julian's secretary, Chloe Young.
Chloe greeted her.
"Miss Evans, you're leaving early today?"
In her memory, Jocelyn always stayed later than everyone else. Whenever someone walked into her office, she was completely absorbed in writing code and working on her research. Despite having a great relationship with her colleagues, she never engaged in casual chatter during work hours. She was so serious when she worked that Chloe was sometimes a little intimidated by her.
But off the clock, she was entirely different—easygoing and quick to smile.
Today, however, Jocelyn's mood seemed off.
Chloe couldn't help but ask, "Are you feeling alright?"
Jocelyn replied: [Give me a couple of days. I'm a little busy right now.]
Adrian responded almost instantly.
[Okay, let me know when you're ready.]
Putting down his phone, Adrian casually opened his mouth to accept the peeled lychee Lana fed him.
He remarked casually, "It's quite sweet."
Lana smiled. "You seem to be in a good mood."
"I suppose so. By the way, how is the flower shop doing?"
He really was in a good mood, or he wouldn't have brought up the shop unprompted.
Lana knew perfectly well that Adrian came to her for two reasons. One was emotional release—venting his frustrations and complaining to her. The second was physical release.
She had to admit, his stamina was incredible. Sometimes, she would be completely exhausted and unwilling to move, but he would still ask if she wanted to go another round. Thankfully, he wasn't entirely devoid of affection for her, so if she really refused out of exhaustion, he didn't force the issue.
Except for that one time. The time he had cried out Jocelyn's name...
