Alexander twisted his lips. “You are going to experience two things, Ophelia Viadislav,”
“And why are you going to punish me if you already know what caused the act? Why are you so adamant about wanting to rile up your son? He is to be used as a weapon by someone else. What do you stand to earn if you succeed?” Angry, Ophelia questioned.
Alexander laughed, “I have nothing to gain Ophelia. I’m not surprised by how much you already know.”
“So I’m correct,” Ophelia sputtered.
Alexander’s brows elevated. “Regarding what?”
“You are working alongside the witch.” Ophelia answered.
“And why do you believe I’m about to punish you for something I could easily ignore?” Alexander grinned as he asked.
“You intend to weaken me so that you can return me to Fireria.” Cinching her fist, Ophelia answered.
“Dying in my hands is not a worthy death; I am not a significant individual. I’m merely a dying being that wishes for his empire to continue thriving in both light and darkness. You are an obstacle, child. It is honorable for you to perish at the hands of your own kind.”
“A dying being?” That was the initial query.
Alexander snorted. “You only find that word intriguing?”
“You are collaborating with people who want to turn your son into a weapon in order for your empire to grow?! And it doesn’t matter to you

whether it grows in the light or the dark? Are you listening to yourself? You sound like a…”
“Like WHAT?!” Alexander boomed. “Coward?”
Ophelia frowned deeply. “Yes.”
Alexander inhaled. “Do not act like you understand anything! I… I left her! I left her all because of my parents wishes!”
Her? Ophelia raised her brows.
Alexander looked like he was about to break down, but he quickly shook his head and gathered himself. “Nikolai is an evil that already exists! He is the primary evil force capable of defeating the moon goddess. He only needs to snap his finger to wipe out our entire race!”
Ophelia’s eyes grew wider. The child of doom had such strength? Why did he appear to be trying to hide something? Why did he seem to be hinting at something more? A primary evil strong enough to defeat a deity? The only conclusion from that was that Nikolai was a god. But given that he was only a powerful demon lycan, how was that even possible?
“You must be afraid of Celestia! It will prosper and top all others in the world! It’s going to be worshiped!” Alexander went on. “No one! Nikolai entering our life was not what we had anticipated. He wasn’t as terrible as we anticipated, but… She gave me new insight into Celestia’s potential if we used him as a weapon.”
Ophelia’s pupils flitted. “You give Celestia more love than your own son?”
What in the world was happening? What kind of logic was this? Evidently, Alexander was prepared to transform his son into a mindless beast!
And by she…. Her? Who on earth was he talking about?!
The objective was to turn Nikolai into a weapon to guarantee Celestia’s

endless wealth, but doing so also meant that Nikolai would lose all of his
emotions and reason, and she would lose him!
Nikolai had to follow the prophecy! The Novikovs would prevail if he chose the course that would place him with Skyla.
“No!” Ophelia shouted.
They all desired to get rid of her for this reason! Nikolai would be something else if she weren’t around.
She stopped thinking and shook her head. She was now very terrified of death!
“I’m not going to let you do anything to him!” Ophelia snarled and strengthened her stance. “As long as I’m still alive, your statements are simply dreams.”
“And for this reason, you will die.” proclaimed Alexander.
Ophelia understood that despite his authoritative speech, he wasn’t trying to murder her. She could see that Esteban was obviously involved in this scheme. The true question, though, was whether her father and uncle really intended to have her killed.
Why would they send her to kill Nikolai if they didn’t want her to be with
him?
Could it be that nobody anticipated that they would become mates?
The forbidden union… No one predicted it!
But then again, looking back at the fire god’s words.
“Sacrifice.” Ophelia breathed out.
And back at Danil’s words.
“Choice?”

She clenched her fist. Vladmir’s words. Nikolai being the villain of her tale.
Ophelia shook her head. She stared at Alexander with narrowed eyes and gradually became aware of the weight building in her head.
The spell was still active! Once more, her vision was foggy.
She was temporarily free of the spell. Most likely only to give her an opportunity to see and hear Alexander.
This was bad!
“Artem!” She lost her balance and screamed as soon as she hit the ground.
She caught Alexander’s chuckle.
“Coward!” He stopped after she shouted, and she then noticed a severe grimace on his face.
She suddenly realized she was surrounded by red moon witches when he abruptly ordered, “Take her away.” All of them were wearing black clothing and grinning at her.
The plan was to transport her away.
She tried to scream again, but this time not even a word could emerge, and she immediately lost her hearing.
What was going on? Esme and Artem were meant to be at the entrance to the throne room! Where did they go?
One of the witches leaned over and grabbed Ophelia’s neck, but just as her vision went completely black, the powerful grip around her neck suddenly wavered and vanished. Ophelia felt her entire world come to a
standstill.
She was unable to move, hear, see, smell, or sense anything, and was left to wonder what was going on in her immediate surroundings.

Unexpectedly, she experienced the feeling of being lifted into powerful, protective arms. Her heart skipped a beat when the familiarity hit her before starting to beat irregularly.
She did not hesitate to lean her head back on his chest, tightly holding onto his cloak.
Impulsively, she released go of his cloak as she felt herself being gently seated on what appeared to be a bed, but as she sensed his loss of warmth, she extended her hands in the hope of grabbing onto him.
She felt her sense of sensation return to her completely, but she felt her whole body tense as she became fully conscious of Nikolai’s dark energy whirling about her.
She took a deep breath and then her hearing sense returned.
“Ophelia.” His soft, deep voice rang in her ear, and the sternness in his tone made her heart skip a beat.
Why did he sound as though he was about to chastise her? Her face started to heat up. The only punishment that was offered without reservation was Nikolai’s.
“I..” She paused with a squeak, realizing she could talk at this point.
