“You genuinely believe that this will make me feel better? With a whiff, Ophelia questioned.
Nikolai grinned. “Darling, I’m not used to showing compassion.”
Ophelia finally smiled and closed her eyes as she savored the warmth of his hands. “Thank you.”
Nikolai laughed. He couldn’t believe she was truly saying thank you. Letting go of her face, he gently stroked the back of her head. When he played with her hair, she occasionally opened her eyes to look into his.
The warmness of those eyes set them apart from his other two forms. These eyes were not filled with gloom; rather, they were filled with innocent feelings.
“Is it working?” Asked Nikolai.
“Huh?” Ophelia lost in staring into his eyes.
Nikolai’s lips twitched. “Compassion.”
“It is.” Ophelia smiled. “Your actions. Not just your eyes.”
“Noted ma’am.” Nikolai chuckled, staring at her with full amusement.
“Ma’am?” Ophelia laughed despite the fact that this wasn’t the first time
he had called her that.
“Do you prefer wife?” Nikolai teased.
For some reason, Ophelia’s heart skipped by that question. The way he called the word “wife.” With all seriousness but the other words with a teasing tone surprised her.
“Yes.” She gave a nod, feeling her face heat as he smiled at her.

As she continued to look into those eyes, she began to feel off, and that
off sensation was telling her that she had previously seen those eyes. She was certain that she had witnessed other feelings since the compassion in them was all too familiar. Especially pure excitement.
After giving it some serious thought, she realized she had already met Nikolai. Were they so close? Why would he stab her then if they were so
close?
No… Slowly, she shook her head. She wasn’t meant to think so deeply.
But why did his eyes suddenly disappear? Why did he maintain his crimson eyes for such a long time?
“Why do you hide your eyes?” She chose to inquire. Although her voice was still feeble, her curiosity was more intense.
Her inquiry did not surprise Nikolai. “Because this form is no longer in
existence.”
“What?” Ophelia confusedly questioned.
“I became one with my beast.” Nikolai retorted, unwilling to go too far into the mystery surrounding his eyes. “Something set it off long before my shift, and when I was banished to Nexus, it…”
“If you’re uncomfortable, Nikolai, you don’t need to go any further.” With a smile, Ophelia interjected. If he truly meant what he claimed, then he really did mean that he hadn’t shown his eyes in three hundred years.
Nikolai was stunned by that statement of hers. Did she truly notice that he didn’t want to talk about it?
He smiled at her, playing with the strands of her hair. “Have you calmed
down?”
Ophelia nodded slowly.

“Tell me.” Nikolai said in a hardened tone.
Ophelia pressed her lips hesitantly without breaking her gaze from his.
She clutched his coat, dragging her fingertip on the surface, distracting herself.
Nikolai suddenly looked stern. He looked like he was going to kill.
Honestly, if she was going to point fingers at that moment, there was no doubt that he wouldn’t proceed into spilling blood. Unfortunately, what had happened to her wasn’t simple.
“I thought I was going to die.” She breathed out, anxiety sparking in her being. No. She wasn’t scared of death but dying in her nightmare? Dying by being punished by a god was what she never wanted. It wasn’t an honorable death.
“But you aren’t dead, are you now darling?” Nikolai asked.
Ophelia bit down her lower lip.
“Was it the fire god?”
What took place this time? Did he threaten her? She was so horrified by the god.
Nikolai thought back to what Vladmir had said. The justification for the gods’ intrusion into his and Ophelia’s existence. It was because they had previously been gods and were offsprings of other gods who were meant to be born in separate lifetimes.
Had something occurred between them in a previous life?
“Ye.. yes.” Ophelia stumbled and leaned forward, her eyes closed and her face buried in the side of his neck. “I believe that the fire god in particular
dislikes me.”
She swept her hot breath across Nikolai’s skin, making him shiver. “What

did he do?”
“He punished me. A punishment that is lethal in both life and dreams.” Ophelia inhaled Nikolai’s fresh minty lemon scent. He had such an alluring
scent.
At those words, Nikolai’s countenance turned gloomy. His enraged pupils grew larger and glitched menacingly before returning to their crimson wolf-like shape.
“A punishment?”
“I… I do not want to talk about it, Nikolai.”
“Why?”
“I… I do want you to do something careless.” Ophelia muttered before turning her head to face him. His eyes, which had returned to their
crimson wolf-like appearance, caused her to blow air into her mouth. “Are you not planning it already? To slay a god?”
“You were punished, Ophelia. You can only be punished by me.” Nikolai
hissed.
Ophelia glanced startledly. “It wasn’t like that!”
“I know, but that doesn’t change the fact that the only person who can discipline you is me.” Nikolai said cunningly.
Ophelia’s body began to heat up in response to the intimidating mischievousness of those words, and she soon realized she was lying on top of Nikolai.
“Nikolai.” Suddenly, she scowled.
“You underestimate me don’t you, darling.” Nikolai mused.
“We have a lot of issues to deal with, Nikolai. I don’t know why the gods
