Alina halted at the same time as Nikolai, curious at why he suddenly stopped but when she heard him say those words, “Scent of mate. She’s here.” shock gripped her entire being.
She gently called out, “Nikolai,” but Nikolai didn’t budge to look at her or respond; instead, he disappeared from view, leaving her perplexed.
At the corridor leading to the vast hall where the coronation was taking place, Nikolai suddenly appeared. The chatter and music were more noticeable to the ears, but the scent that was emanating from the hall drew
his attention.
He took a deep breath to attempt to settle himself, then stepped into the hall while his eyes wandered in search of the source of the scent that was attracting him like a magnet.
Was this a positive or negative development? The fact that a different person, not just Ophelia, was luring him? Why wasn’t he able to resist it?
Murmurs filled the room and his eyes locked on the big platform where Alexander, Devin, Albert, and Yakim were waiting for him.
In contrast to past days, Alexander was donning a golden crown, and it was clear from the look on his face that he wasn’t quite ready to part with it. Nikolai almost smiled, finding his father utterly stupidly infantile at that
moment.
Nikolai shook his head and started to walk on the wide crimson carpet that led to the platform, trying to get rid of the scent and concentrate on the
coronation.
As usual, the guests in attendance began to mutter their various points of view and thoughts.

“Is that him?”
“He has a stronger presence than his father, which had never anticipated.”
“I have heard that he is a demon lycan.”
“Is that Nikolai Novikov?”
“He has been nuts since he was born, he will be a tyrant.”
“Goddess! He’s really gorgeous.”
“I’ve heard he is infatuated with a Firerian dragoness.”
“He appears to be powerful and strong enough to be our alpha.”
“He’ll take us all straight to destruction.”
Despite the scent trying to divert his attention, Nikolai smirked cunningly, breaking his attention from his hearing and keeping it fixed on his father.
This magnetic scent bothered him; he disliked being unwillingly pulled to someone else. It made him feel like a puppet.
As he ascended the platform’s stairs, Nikolai saw his cousins, who were all seated at the high table staring with various looks on their faces. He was perplexed by the fact that Boris in particular didn’t appear angry, but rather amazed. Interesting.
Without breaking his gaze, Nikolai murmured, “Father,” with a hint of reverence as he stepped next to Alexander, who heaved ealmly and quietly. “You don’t seem happy today, father. Too bad you can’t just decide to alter your mind.”
“Do you have to stir things up here too?” Alexander asked through his clenched teeth.
“Sasha put a spell over us, no one can hear us.” With a sly smile creeping across his lips, Nikolai muttered. “They can’t hear me threaten to take your

life, Alexander.”
Alexander narrowed his eyes at Nikolai, “Taking my own life won’t solve anything.”
“Believe me, Alexander, it will give me half the tranquility I need to think clearly.” Nikolai answered.
“There is no legitimate justification for you. You thrive off the darkness you harbor inside and the fear people have of you.” Alexander said in a low voice, looking sharply at his son as though he were speaking to his grave foe.
“You seem to be very familiar with me. Even though I am aware that I am a very bad boy, I do not want to hear a bedtime story, and I especially do not want to hear the child of doom’s prophecy.” Nikolai muttered with complete
disdain.
“You still don’t get it?” Alexander enquired as he moved slightly away from Nikolai. “I killed you because you are the child of doom!”
Dark wisps started to emerge from Nikolai as his eyes burned with rage, spinning out in response to the ferocious hatred that filled them. “How dare you say something like that to me?! Do I look like I want to hear any of your bullshit?!”
The room was filled with mutters of shock and uncertainty. While nobody could hear or understand what Alexander and Nikolai were saying, it was clear from their expressions that something wasn’t right. All of this was made worse as the foreboding dark mist started to emerge.
“In the same way that you never do something without reason… Whether it’s to control your feelings, to express aggressiveness, to feed your bloodlust, or to further your cunning tactical schemes, you kill for a cause. You are a blight on this family, a curse on Celestia, a curse on this world, thus I killed you because of that.”

Nikolai grabbed Alexander by the collar. “Then why didn’t you murder me as soon as I entered this world? Why hold out for a foolish opportunity?”
He violently shook his father, pushed him aside when he didn’t respond, and quickly snatched the crown off of his head.
The murmurs and chatter got louder, so an elder climbed up onto the platform wearing a huge robe with the sign of the wolf howling to the moon to ease the tension.
“Your majesty, the time has come.” Despite being apprehensive in Nikolai’s presence, he muttered softly.
He received the crown from Nikolai, who then turned to face Alexander, who had managed to keep himself from falling. “Pitiful.” Nikolai snarled and the shadowy specks surrounding him vanished.
Sasha took swift action to ensure that Alexander could not hear her.
She turned to Vladmir, who was looking at Nikolai with tears in his eyes and sighed in frustration.
The elder hoisted the crown over Nikolai’s head and everyone present, with the exception of the Novikovs, quickly fell to their knees.
“In unity for a united home, in power for a powerful home, and in grace for a graceful home! We crown you Nikolai Novikov, the Alpha of Alphas, the Alpha of Celestia. May you live a long time, Alpha Nikolai!” Everyone, including the Novikovs, lowered their heads in response to the elder’s
announcement.
“Long live Alpha Nikolai! Long live Alpha Nikolai! Long live Alpha Nikolai!” Everyone chanted, raising their arms all together.
Suddenly, their eyes all turned into their wolf-like forms and they all howled loudly before resuming their chants.
Nikolai turned his attention to his father, who was glaring at him with utter
