Heaving a sigh, Nikolai felt the energy that had been rushing into his body dissipate. His eyes then flickered to the mist that was engulfing him and Ophelia. It was likewise vanishing. Odd. He forced himself into a sitting posture, carefully cradling Ophelia, and then lifted her into his arms and stood up.
His gaze drifted from Ophelia’s placid, unperturbed face to the bleeding side of her neck. “Why do I think I’m supposed to mark you tonight.”
“Nikolai!” From a distance, Rhaziel’s voice resounded.
Rhaziel was standing there with a startled expression as Nikolai turned his attention to the dungeon’s bars. He appeared to have seen a ghost as his eyes lingered over Nikolai’s bloodied lips and Ophelia, who was
unconscious in his arms.
“Why the hell?” He gasped as he opened the door and proceeded to the dungeon. “How did she enter this place? What happened?”
“Stop provoking me with pointless inquiries.” Nikolai scowled.
Rhaziel’s eyes widened when he noticed the side of Ophelia’s neck, which was smeared with blood and bore a deep bite mark. “Oh god no!”
“What’s this about? I had the urge to bite her out of the blue.” Nikolai quietly
muttered.
“Just a bite?” Rhaziel sounded less anxious. “Darn! I thought you…” He paused and turned to look at Nikolai, who was now glaring at him with complete annoyance.
“It’s almost time for your coronation; we’ll talk about this later.” He spoke with calm. It was wiser to interrogate Nikolai after everything that had occurred and would occur that evening.

“Sincerely, I almost forgot about that.” In a rough whisper, Nikolai disappeared from view.

Rhaziel pursed his lips, teasing his hair with his hands. His thoughts were surrounded by curiosity. “Unexpected urge to mark? What does that mean? Why did the urge have to arise just as the connection was becoming apparent?”
Nikolai was concentrating hard on wiping the blood off her neck with a white cloth that was damp, but he was unable to keep his mind from drifting. He gently placed a cloth in the small bowl of water, saw the blood soak into the colorless, transparent water, and then drew the towel out, squeezed it, and again wiped Ophelia’s neck.
Vladmir gave off the impression of having extensive knowledge. It was expected given that he was a seer, but Nikolai was beginning to realize that the seer genuinely knew a tremendous amount of information connected to every aspect of his existence.
If Vladmir was aware that he died, Vladmir must have been aware of Tiana’s deeds, right? If Vladmir was able to inform Ophelia that Alexander had killed him, then surely the chatty seer knew why?
“Child of doom?” Nikolai questioned with a sneer of incredulity. “Is this a
joke?”
Legend had it that the Child of Doom was a being destined to destroy Celestia and the routes leading to his or her life. A deity’s progeny, Nikolai thought it was just a ridiculous prophecy that had been passed down through the centuries, with each generation having its own interpretation.
“Does he intend to imply that the reason Alexander killed me was because I am the child of doom?” Nikolai asked, shook his head and chuckled heartily.
“Bullshit.”

Seeing that there was no blood at all at the bite mark, he reinserted the towel into the bowl and smiled faintly while pressing his hand against Ophelia’s forehead to move her hair to the sides of her face.
“You’re involved in all of this now, aren’t you?” He lowered his head, murmuring. “I’ve been trying to avoid this, but I should have known it was unavoidable.”
He sprang up from the bed, gave her a tender kiss on the forehead, then stepped back and entered the bathing room, flinging the dark robe that covered his body but not his chest to the floor.
After taking a bath, he put on a ceremonial black and gold regal outfit that spilled the powerful aura “Alpha of Celestia”. His physique was perfectly covered by the shirt, coat, and slacks that were also perfectly tailored. He put on a bigger cloak and placed it appropriately over his shoulders.
There was a huge gold representation of a wolf howling to the moon behind
the cloak.
He regarded his disheveled hair, which nevertheless looked excellent, in the mirror, frowning a little. And as he continued staring intently at his reflection, he watched as his eyes returned to their dark crimson wolf-like
appearance.
“Hmm. I’m beginning to resemble my father more.” He mumbled, giving his reflection a harsh glare.
His face instantly fell into a deep frown, and he shot the door a death glare as it abruptly opened to show his loving mother, who was looking stunning in her silver dress for the important event.
She cast a disapproving glance at the comatose dragoness before turning to face her son, who was irate at her presence.
“What are you doing here, mother?” Nikolai asked in a quiet voice as he

approached her with naturally strong steps that complemented his clothing.
Alina grinned at him. “I must say, you look stunning even with your unkempt hair.”
“I don’t need your praise,” Nikolai scoffed. “I asked you a question.”
“It is customary for the Luna to accompany the Alpha heir to the ritual. Do you remember that I’am your mother and Luna?” Alina inquired firmly, still sporting a smile.
Nikolai nodded, taking a step closer to his mother then leaned in close, whispering, “You are my Luna, but are you really my mother?”
He leaned aside, widening Alina’s eyes just a little before they shrank back. “I will take good care of your hair.” She rushed up and reached out to stroke his hair, but he smacked her arm away and scowled at her with an extremely enraged expression.
“Stay away from me!” He let off a menacing snarl of irritation.
Alina lowered her arm gradually, showing signs of pain on her face.
Nikolai picked up the brush, switched his attention back to the mirror, and began to style his hair. He braided the sides, leaving the center unbraided, and he left a few sparse strands on his forehead.
Alina observed her son taking professional care of himself. She was accustomed to staying away from him because, when he was six years old, he forbade her from touching him in any way. They were that distant.
