The Love I Begged For Was Never Real novel Chapter 402

She took a deep breath and transferred every cent from the card directly into her father's hospital account.

The glaring red numbers on the screen finally flipped to a reassuring green. In that fleeting moment, the heart Nora had been holding in her throat finally settled just a little.

Exhausted, she leaned weakly against the counter, shivering as she slowly made her way to the emergency room's trauma bay.

The attending doctor took one look at the catastrophic damage to her right hand and furrowed his brow tightly.

"How did this happen? The bones are crushed. Why did you wait so long to come in?"

As he cleaned the thick mud and blood from her fingers with iodine, he scolded her sternly.

"Bear with it. Setting the bones is going to hurt."

"Doctor," Nora breathed, staring blankly at her heavily bandaged hands. "Can my hands ever fully recover?"

"The bones are severely pulverized. The joints in your index and middle fingers have suffered irreversible comminuted fractures. We can save the hand, so amputation isn't necessary, and basic daily tasks shouldn't be much of an issue."

The doctor snipped the gauze, looking at the young woman with deep pity.

"But the tendons and nerves inside are completely severed. Even when it heals, you will absolutely never be able to do any precision work or anything requiring high-level dexterity ever again."

Nora sat in the chair, her gaze fixed emptily on her hands.

These were the hands that had once won the gold medal at The Vienna Youth Design Grand Prix.

These were the hands that had worked day and night at Lawrence Atelier, sketching jewelry designs that had stunned the entire industry.

Now, her hands were technically still attached to her arms, but she would never be able to pick up her beloved sketching pencils again. She would never draw another design belonging to Nora Xavier in this lifetime.
