The Love I Begged For Was Never Real novel Chapter 401

Julian Pierce stood silently before the tombstone, staring down imperiously at the bloody, mangled hands in the mud.

Behind his gold-rimmed glasses, his eyes held no satisfaction of vengeance achieved—only bottomless gloom and deep-seated disgust.

Unhurriedly, he reached into the inner pocket of his suit and pulled out a black bank card.

The card dropped into the muddy puddle, splashing up drops of murky water.

"Nora, the money in this card is enough to keep your crippled father breathing in the ICU for a little while."

Julian took a step back, a look of revulsion crossing his face.

"Don't worry, I won't let you die an easy death."

His voice cut through the endless sheet of rain, every single word dipped in malice.

"I will strip you of everything you care about in this world—your family, your reputation, your future as a designer. I am going to make you live in this city like a stray dog, completely devoid of dignity."

Leaving those words hanging in the air, Julian held up his pitch-black umbrella and turned away, striding quickly down the mountain without sparing her a second glance.

The space before the tombstone returned to a dead, stagnant silence.

Nora lay slumped in the mud for a long time, until the freezing rain beating against her shoulders had turned her body completely numb.

Biting down hard on her bloodless lip, she summoned every last ounce of her remaining strength and agonizingly forced herself to stand.

The moment she put weight on her hands, a piercing, bone-deep agony shot through her shattered knuckles and torn tendons. Her vision went black in violent waves.

Her trembling hand reached down and tightly gripped the black card lying in the muddy water.

Her knees had long gone numb from kneeling on the unforgiving ground. Every step she dragged forward felt as though her bones were being ripped apart.
