The Love I Begged For Was Never Real novel Chapter 398

Nora's forehead slammed against the freezing stone. Rainwater splashed into her eyes, blurring her vision.

She lost track of how long she was forced to stay collapsed in the freezing, wet mud, held down in that utterly humiliating position.

The gravel beneath her had long since chewed through her bruised skin. Muddy water mixed with the chilling rain soaked completely through her black dress, stealing every last ounce of warmth from her body.

The two guards kept their heavy hands clamped firmly on her shoulders, forcing her head down against the icy base of the monument.

The somber funeral music had faded away. The noisy, elite guests had gradually filtered out with their black umbrellas as the memorial service drew to a close.

The once-crowded stone pathway was left completely empty, save for the white petals trampled into the mud.

Moving sluggishly, Nora turned her head.

Gideon seemed to have already left.

He hadn't said a single parting word or spared her even a final glance of disgust. But he hadn't told his men to let her up, either.

The man was clearly dead set on letting her suffer out here.

A heavy, dragging sensation in her lower abdomen grew sharper under the freezing downpour. Accompanied by rolling waves of dull agony that felt like they were tearing her apart from the inside, Nora closed her eyes in utter despair.

Just then, a black umbrella opened silently above her head, shielding her from the punishing chill of the early summer rain that stung her lashes.

Nora thought Gideon had come back.
