The Love I Begged For Was Never Real novel Chapter 396

"You should rot in hell! Why didn't you die instead of Giselle?!"

They channeled their desperate need to suck up to the Hayes and Pierce families into a vicious attack on Nora. Trampling her wasn't just a way to vent; it was a display of loyalty to Gideon.

Nora threw her arms over her head to shield herself.

The thorny stems of the floral tributes slashed across the back of her hands, drawing beads of crimson against her pale skin.

"I didn't push her!"

Nora screamed, desperately trying to defend herself over the roar of the crowd. "It really wasn't me! I'm not a murderer!"

Her pleas were weak and insignificant against the mob's fury, instantly drowned out by a louder wave of curses.

The security detail did nothing to stop the onslaught. They simply forced Nora forward, making her walk step by step across the plaza toward the cemetery plot.

With every step, she endured a barrage of insults and shoving.

A tight-knit circle of Giselle's closest friends stood in the clearing before the headstone. Her best friends, guys from Gideonโ€™s inner circle, and a few wealthy heirs who had once eagerly pursued Giselle all stood there with red-rimmed eyes.

Seeing Nora hauled toward them, a few of the men lost their grip on their emotions. They broke right through the security line and lunged at her.

"You vicious bitch!"

Dominic Ashford pointed right in Nora's face, his eyes completely bloodshot.

"Giselle was so pure and kind! She was only twenty-two! You pushed her off a roof just to satisfy your own sick vanity! How dare you show your face here today!"

One of Giselle's friends marched forward on her stilettos. Tears streaming down her face, the girl raised her hand and delivered a vicious slap across Noraโ€™s cheek.

The sharp crack echoed through the crowd.

"That was for Giselle!"
