Chapter 60
Marcus left Natalie so she could have proper rest. He understood that whoever those two men were they were dangerous and he had to prepare for it.
That night Julia messaged him. She sounded worried about the Cornwall contract. Marcus knew the CEO of Cornwall Enterprises was Ms. Elena his cousin. That was the reason he felt so confident about getting the contract.
But to avoid raising suspicion he decided to give Julia a simple life lesson instead.
Marcus messaged her back.
[The big advantage in getting a contract is finding a company’s weak point, what they need, and what they are suffering from. No company has it all together no matter how successful they look from the outside. If you can discover that gap you can use it as an exchange for the contract. Many people seeking contracts focus only on what they can do just to achieve it and forget what they must give back in return].
[Understand the other side first. That gives you more power than trying to impress them with long speeches and promises. What matters is relevance. If you can present yourself as the exact solution to a problem they are already struggling with the contract will feel natural rather than forced.]
As soon as the message entered Julia’s phone she felt her panic fade.
The anxiety that had tightened her chest slowly loosened and her mind became clear.
She suddenly felt motivated and energized. She sent a smiling emoji to Marcus and replied, “Thanks so much I will make my research right now!!!”
Marcus just smiled. “Tomorrow then!”.

The next day Marcus and Julia met at the road intersection before heading to Cornwall Enterprises.
As soon as they saw each other Julia smiled with new confidence. “Thank you for yesterday’s advice. I believe I can do it now. I already prepared. I know what the company is lacking. They will certainly love this.”
Marcus scoffed and did not even ask what her point was. There was no need. The contract had already been decided in her favor long before this morning.
They walked side by side toward the company entrance. Just as they were about to go in a voice came from behind them.
“So you both aren’t hiding it anymore. You are now an official couple?”
Marcus and Julia stopped and turned around to see Jessica and Travis standing together a few steps
away.

Marcus sighed and wanted to ignore her but Jessica rushed forward.
“Hey! Where do you think you are going? I nearly died because of you last time and you can’t even show gratitude. Now you are ignoring me?”
Marcus exhaled slowly. “Okay. Thanks. If that is what you want.”
Because of what Jessica had done for him before Marcus had decided to let the necklace matter go. He had once vowed to pursue it to the end but after she saved him he chose to drop it. That was his way of gratitude.
Travis stepped forward and looked Julia up and down. “Seeing you with that lady what about Ms. Natalie of the Langstone. I thought you two had something. Are you a gigolo now?”
A gigolo is a man who lives off women by forming relationships with them for money or benefits rather
than love.
Jessica frowned as if that explanation made sense. “Are you truly a gigolo now? Is that true?”
Julia’s face hardened. “Stop with your ridiculous accusations. Can’t you just leave us alone?”
Jessica’s eyes suddenly fell on their hands. She noticed the matching rings and her expression changed. “Are you both truly engaged? marcus, is this a joke?”
Marcus lifted his hand slightly. “As you can see.”
Jessica grabbed his hand and looked closely at the ring. Recognition flashed in her eyes. It was the Queen’s Mother design. Her face twisted with anger.
“Where… did you get this!”.
julia chimed in, “It none of your business, so, just stop disturbing us whenever we collide!”.
Jessica stared at julia with an anger expression, before she turned to Marcus, “How could you do this Marcus? I told you we could still get back together. I still love you and you still went ahead to get engaged to someone else. Within a month!”
Travis shook his head with contempt. “I told you before. He is just a parasite who doesn’t love you. He hangs around women to survive.”
Jessica sneered at Marcus with hurt and fury mixed together. “I regret having feelings for you.”
Marcus scoffed it off. “I told you nothing can bring us together again. You are the one refusing to accept
the truth.”
He grabbed Julia’s hand and turned away.
Travis called after them. “What are you both even doing here?”
His eyes dropped to the document in Julia’s hand. He leaned forward and saw it was a proposal. He scoffed. “Don’t tell me you are here for the Cornwall contract. Newsflash. It has already been awarded to

Jessica noticed the expression on her face and stepped forward with a smile. “Wait. You think you two with no background and no connection can get this contract? That is funny. Anyway it has been given to me. I have a close friend that is a best friend to the CEO of this company and we even spoke on the phone this morning. So stop wasting your time and leave.”
Marcus sighed. “You haven’t signed it yet. So there is still a chance.”
“Chance?” Jessica laughed sharply. “Stop being delusional. Even big companies could not convince them but you two think you can? Nobody is going to change their mind. I can’t wait to see you both embarrass yourselves.”
Julia felt her confidence collapse. She had prepared so much for this moment and now everything felt pointless. She opened her mouth to speak.
At that moment a small boy holding a cup of coffee ran carelessly across the walkway. He did not see Jessica in front of him and bumped straight into her. The cup tipped and hot coffee splashed across her dress.
In the blink of an eye Jessica reacted.
Snap!!!.
Her hand struck the little boy so hard that he flung backward.
