Chapter 218

The door slammed against the wall so hard the cheap frame shook. Mr. Adam shot up from the chair beside the bed. His face drained of color the moment he saw Marcus in the doorway.
He started trembling at once. His lips kept hitting each other. Sweat ran down his temple. His eyes jumped from Marcus to Natalie and back again like he was looking for an escape that was not there.
“Mr. Marcus-”
Marcus did not let him finish.
He stepped in and kicked him hard in the chest. Adam flew backward and crashed into the nightstand. The lamp smashed on the floor. Glass scattered across the stained carpet. Adam hit the wall and slid down, gasping.
Marcus did not care that this man was the Senate President. He grabbed him by the collar, dragged him up, and punched him in the face. Once. The first blow snapped Adam’s head to the side. Twice. Blood burst from his nose. Three times. His lip split open. The fourth punch sent him staggering into the bed.
Adam tried to cover his head with both arms.
“Please! Please! I know nothing about it! I know nothing about it!”
He already knew why they were there.
Marcus yanked him closer until their faces were almost touching.
“Ohh, you know what you did. How dare you drug Julia and take advantage of her.”
Adam’s voice cracked. Tears mixed with the blood on his chin. “I swear I didn’t do it. I swear. I didn’t.”
Marcus’s jaw tightened. His eyes stayed cold.
“Ohh, stop that bullshit. There is a photo of you and her, and it wasn’t fabricated at all. So tell me. How did she end up in your bedroom?”
Adam sniffled. His shoulders jumped with every breath. He looked at the floor like the answer might be written there.
“I… I am shocked as well. I am on it. I didn’t know how she got there at all. I swear.”
Natalie stood near the broken door, arms folded, watching him without pity. she was eager to know what exactly happened.
Marcus’s grip on the collar did not loosen.
“Don’t you dare lie. You booked the room. She came to meet you. And if you did nothing, why are you running away?”
Adam’s face crumpled. He sniffled again. His voice dropped so low it almost disappeared.
“I am running away because of guilt and shame. And also… I want to catch whoever is involved in this before I return home.”

Marcus frowned. For a second he just stared at him.
“What are you saying?”
Adam swallowed hard. His split lip trembled.
“I booked a hookup. This wasn’t my first time or my second time. That is how I have always done it. That night I booked a girl. I was expecting her to come. But I slept off. When I woke up… Julia was the one lying beside me.”
Marcus and Natalie gazed at each other.
Marcus leaned in until Adam could feel his breath.
“Don’t you dare lie to me. You want to remove yourself from this and blame Julia.”
Adam shook his head hard. Blood from his nose smeared across his mouth.
“No. No. I am telling you the fact. You know Ms. Julia. She is a woman of virtue. She would never do that. Someone drugged me. And they probably drugged her too. That is how she ended up beside me.”
Marcus turned his face toward Natalie. His jaw was still tight, but his eyes asked the question without words.
Natalie studied Adam for a long second. The man’s fear looked real. His hands would not stay still.
“He might be saying the truth,” she said. “Also, if Julia was heavily sedated with a special drug, they can make her easy to move. Easy to control. They can make her walk in that room without her will. It is possible. I already requested another deeper test on her blood. They will find out which sedative they used.”
Her phone buzzed.
Natalie looked down, then her expression changed.
“I know. It is really a special sedative called scopolamine. It can make someone easy to control. Someone really planned this.”
Marcus scoffed under his breath.
He turned back to the Senate President. Anger flashed across his face again. He threw a heavy punch straight into Adam’s nose. The man cried out and dropped to one knee, holding his face.
“This would have been resolved if you didn’t hide,” Marcus said. “Now tell me. Who is that girl you were supposed to meet?”
Adam sniffled through the blood. “She… she is from an agency. I know the place. I already sent someone to look for the girl there. But there is no report.”
Marcus nodded once. “Let’s go there together.”
They left the cheap hotel at once. The car cut through the late streets until they reached a bar tucked behind a row of old buildings.
Inside, the air smelled of smoke and cheap perfume. Marcus walked straight to the counter.
“We are here to meet the manager.”
