Nora understood Nathan's meaning.
She remembered how much had happened yesterday when she stepped out for just a bit, and finally nodded.
"Okay."
"Just buy whatever you want, and grab me a coffee."
Nathan opened his mouth, wanting to say coffee early in the morning wasn't a great idea, but seeing Nora's lack of energy and knowing she had important things to do today, he figured the caffeine might help. "Alright."
"Iced Americano?"
"Yeah."
Nathan agreed.
After he left, Nora got up to wash up.
Because of everything that had happened, she now had a conditioned reflex whenever she entered the bathroom.
She checked the shower head to make sure nothing was out of the ordinary, then walked over to the sink and squeezed a dollop of cleanser into her palm.
Turning the faucet on and off, she worked up a lather in her hands and gently massaged it into her skin in soft circles.
Creak—
A very faint sound echoed in the room.
Nora's hands paused.
Almost at the exact moment the thought "someone came in" popped into her head, she cranked the faucet on full blast.
The rushing water drowned out all other noise.
Nora hastily rinsed her face and flattened herself behind the bathroom door.
The footsteps outside grew louder.
It was exactly as she expected.
Right after Nathan and the nurse left, someone had sneaked in. The intruder clearly knew she was alone in the ward.
Their presence here wasn't a coincidence.
If she had merely suspected that the mastermind was targeting her after the previous incidents...
She was absolutely certain of it now.
Once is a fluke, twice is a coincidence, but three times is a pattern.
