"Go check on that cleaner later," Nathan said.
If he weren't temporarily crippled, he would have investigated the situation himself.
He knew perfectly well that Nora was agonizing over the case's progress, so he deliberately gave her an excuse to get involved.
Sure enough, Nora agreed instantly. "I will."
After lunch, Nathan needed to rest.
Nora didn't know if he had slept poorly the night before, but considering she had aggressively monopolized his hospital bed, she didn't dare ask.
Once Nathan was fast asleep, Nora quietly slipped out of the room.
Because the incident had caused such a massive commotion, it only took Nora asking one nurse to find out the victim was in the ICU in Building 3.
"It's so heartbreaking. She had already retired and was finally getting to enjoy her golden years. But a few years ago, her daughter-in-law died of an amniotic fluid embolism during childbirth. She's a widow, and her son works overseas and can hardly ever make it back. He dumped his newborn son with her and vanished."
"There's no way you can raise a kid on a basic pension. So, she scraped by for a few years until her grandson started kindergarten, then she took this hospital cleaning gig just to put a little extra food on the table."
"Who would have thought that less than six months into the job, this would happen?"
"Now she's only got that little boy. He can barely even speak in full sentences yet. I heard the neighbors had to take him in. If she doesn't pull through, what's going to happen to that poor kid?"
As Nora approached the ICU ward, she overheard family members from a neighboring room gossiping in the hallway.
They were talking about Sarah Sutton.
Hearing the absolutely tragic state of the woman's life, Nora's expression grew incredibly grim.
"Hey miss, who are you looking for?"
Sarah Sutton clearly didn't have any family left to visit her, so when the gossiping relatives saw Nora walking toward the room, they sized her up with suspicious glares.
