"Yes."
He sighed, the memory clearly bringing up a surge of frustration.
Nathan, who had been quietly keeping an eye on him, smoothly poured a glass of water and handed it over. "Did you bring your meds?" he asked softly.
Touched by his grandson's attentiveness, Harold felt a rush of warmth, though he grumbled, "I don't need pills yet. You always overreact."
Despite his protests, Harold pulled out his prescription, tossed a pill back, and swallowed it. Nathan nodded in satisfaction.
"Drink some water. Take your time, there's no rush."
The pill clearly tasted awful, and Harold's expression soured even further.
But he managed a smile for his grandson, took a sip of water, and waited for the bitterness to fade. "Getting old is a miserable thing. I can't even talk about the past without my blood pressure spiking."
Nathan's sharp tongue showed zero restraint, even when dealing with his own grandfather.
"It's completely normal. The stunts those relatives pulled would give a healthy teenager a heart attack, let alone you."
"But you brought it on yourself. If you had just let them ruin themselves instead of trying to manage them, you wouldn't be this stressed."
Harold stared at him, speechless.
Nora wanted to laugh, but afraid it would look like she was gloating, she quickly stifled the urge.
The older man's mouth twitched. He took a few deep breaths, finally managing to steady his temper.
He looked over at Nora, who was trying very hard to blend into the background, and forced a smile.
"Nora, he's been like this since he was a kid. You're going to need a lot of patience."
"If he ever talks to you like this, you just tell me. I'll put him in his place."
He was genuinely worried she might be turned off by Nathan's abrasive side and change her mind about the wedding.
Nathan casually leaned back and chimed in, "Don't worry, Grandpa. You'll never get the chance. I don't treat her like that."
Harold glared.
She shot him a glare, her eyes full of warning.
He nodded, immediately backing down. "Alright, alright, my lips are sealed. Otherwise, he's going to need another pill."
Nora rolled her eyes.
That wasn't what she meant at all!
Harold caught sight of Nora reaching under the table and pinching Nathan's arm hard.
It must have hurt, because he watched his grandson flinch.
But seeing the dopey, absolutely smitten grin on Nathan's face despite the pain, Harold couldn't help but laugh too.
"Someone definitely needs to teach him when to keep his mouth shut."
Seemingly forgetting his grandson's ruthless comments from moments ago, he chuckled. "You'll get used to it eventually, Nora. He pulls this kind of stunt all the time."
Nora actually realized that Nathan had deliberately provoked the older man just to distract him from his rising anger.
