She knew the smart move was to stop and ask Leonard what he wanted.
He wasn't the type to offer an olive branch often.
If he was handing her an out, she ought to take it.
But with Nora watching, Cynthia simply couldn't bring herself to yield.
She absolutely refused to.
She and Mia were already losing ground.
If she showed Nora that her status in the Hayes household was weaker than it appeared, Nora would inevitably exploit it.
So Cynthia kept her spine rigid and marched proudly into the room.
Leonard's face stiffened.
He clearly hadn't expected his usually pragmatic wife to reject his attempt at de-escalation.
Firmly believing he had coddled them too much, he let out a cold snort.
Turning back to Nora, his tone shifted to something shockingly warm and gentle. "Nora, don't listen to her nonsense."
"This situation has nothing to do with you. Please don't blame yourself."
Just inside the doorway, Cynthia nearly lost her mind hearing that.
Nothing to do with Nora? Then who did it have to do with?
The internet was exploding with rumors, and Nora was shamelessly letting herself be painted as some top-tier master detective.
Meanwhile, her daughter had been forced to touch absolute filth.
Human bone broth!
Just thinking about it was horrifying!
Cynthia grew angrier by the second. Spotting Aaron in the room, her fury finally found a target.
"What the hell are you doing here?"
Over the years, she had encountered countless social climbers and leeches trying to ride the coattails of wealthy women. She tore down every single one of them.
Any broke man who even dared to look her way got a lethal dose of her verbal venom.
Aaron, however, possessed a fragile ego masked by bottomless greed.
He constantly relied on self-delusion to maintain his sense of superiority.
He had always convinced himself that he chose Mia out of necessity, refusing to accept that he was just a gold-digger.
Hearing Cynthia brutally lay out the truth in front of a room full of people shattered his delusions completely.
"Shut your mouth!"
Aaron completely lost his mind and roared, "You think your precious daughter is so innocent? She's trash who's slept her way through half the city! You should be grateful I even agreed to take her! Did you really think anyone in high society would want her? What, do you think wealthy men enjoy wearing a green hat?"
Cynthia practically hyperventilated from sheer fury.
But before she could scream back, Leonard kicked the door open, staring at Aaron in horror. "What exactly do you know?"
