The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 530

"You're a useless, pathetic loser!"

"I don't want Nora's trash either!"

"You bitch!"

A blind, primal rage hijacked Aaron's brain.

He didn't know how or when he moved.

All he heard was the distant, muffled screaming of the doctor and nurse. "Sir! Sir, let her go!"

Aaron couldn't hear them. His mind was just an endless, echoing loop of her words: *You're a loser. I don't want Nora's trash.*

The humiliation consumed him. He tightened his grip around her throat, as if crushing the life out of her would somehow prove his worth.

"Aaron!"

A chilling, familiar voice pierced through the chaos.

Aaron thought he was hallucinating and his hands froze for a split second.

The next instant, an agonizing pain shot through his shoulder and wrist.

The sharp agony snapped him back to reality. Before he could process what was happening, an overwhelming force violently wrenched him backward, sending him crashing onto the floor.

"Target secured."

The man's voice was deep and resonant.

It carried a suffocating, inherent authority.

Aaron looked up in disbelief, only to see the police captain he had sneered at standing over him like a predator.

"What are you doing here?" Aaron gasped out.

Then, reality crashed down on him. He muttered to himself, "If you're here... Nora must be here too. So I wasn't hallucinating..."

He frantically scanned the room.

Sure enough, he spotted Nora standing in the doorway.

She was calmly speaking to the nurse, not sparing him a single glance.

"Nora..."

Nora nodded.

She was just about to turn and say something to Nathan when frantic, heavy footsteps echoed down the hallway.

Nora frowned. Before she could even turn her head, a vicious gust of wind swung violently toward her face.

The attacker was moving too fast. Nora had zero time to react; she could literally feel the sting of the approaching slap.

"Watch out."

At the exact same moment he spoke, Nathan grabbed Nora's wrist and yanked her firmly against his chest.

By pulling her in, his own side was exposed. The open-handed slap, delivered with absolute, lethal force, slammed directly into his arm.

*Smack!*

The sickening crack of the impact echoed loudly enough to make anyone wince.

Nora's face drained of color. She pulled back from Nathan's embrace and looked up, locking eyes with a woman she utterly despised—someone she would never forget.

Mia's mother, Leonard's current wife, and the only woman the public recognized as Mrs. Hayes—Cynthia Hayes.
