The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 505

Julian interrupted, his voice smooth and detached, like a layer of cold mist.

"I've heard a great deal about you."

Despite the polite words, nothing in his demeanor suggested he had an ounce of actual respect for her.

Valerie picked up on the icy undertone immediately. She muttered under her breath, "What's with the weird attitude?"

Worried that Valerie was about to start a fight with her date on her behalf, Nora quickly intervened. She pulled Valerie back down into her chair, met Julian's gaze with a cold, steady stare, and smiled sharply. "I wouldn't say I'm renowned. If anything, I'm the one who's heard a great deal about Dr. Croft."

"I'm just a humble forensic examiner at the local precinct, but you're in a completely different league. Anyone with even a passing interest in medicine knows your name."

"Even ordinary people keep tabs on geniuses like you. After all, we never know when we might end up on your operating table, praying you'll save our lives."

"Wouldn't you agree, Dr. Croft?"

Valerie shot Nora a look of pure astonishment.

She had never expected her usually reserved friend to unleash such razor-sharp sarcasm.

It instantly reminded her of Nathan.

The two of them were definitely a matched set; they were starting to sound exactly alike.

Julian was equally caught off guard by the retaliation.

A flicker of emotion crossed his eyes before vanishing back into his usual indifferent stare.

"You know I'm angry."

Julian stated, his tone absolute.

Nora and Valerie stared at him, utterly bewildered.

"So what if I am?"

If he wasn't harboring some kind of grudge, why would he be so relentlessly passive-aggressive within seconds of meeting her?

His so-called compliment was a thinly veiled insult; it was obvious he looked down on her profession.

Initially, Valerie had been quite impressed by him.

Forced to choose between a hot guy and her best friend, Valerie chose her friend without a second thought.

She glared at Julian. "What did Nora ever do to you? Why are you being so hostile? If you have a problem, just say it."

Julian looked at Valerie.

Whether he genuinely wanted to respect his date or was just stating a fact, he said very earnestly, "I apologize."

Valerie was instantly disarmed.

How could someone be so rude, yet so quick to admit fault?

He had technically apologized.

But the lingering awkwardness remained.

"Do you have an issue with me, Dr. Croft?"

Nora patted Valerie's hand to calm her, then locked eyes with Julian.
