The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 500

Now that the tables had turned and he was the one who had to grovel, she knew he was undoubtedly suffering.

Wasn't that so much more entertaining than getting her own hands dirty to ruin him?

Let the rabid dogs tear each other apart. Once the wedding was over, she would deliver the final, crushing blow.

Although Nora had never explicitly told anyone her revenge plot, she had their ultimate downfalls meticulously mapped out in her head.

"How could we not want to see him suffer?"

Valerie shot Nora a look and huffed, "Just look at all the despicable things the guy has done."

"If a cheating bastard gets to live happily ever after, where is the justice in the world?"

As Valerie spoke, she suddenly became fired up. "Let's go, let's go! We need to go meet this Julian Croft guy immediately."

Nora was utterly bewildered by her sudden shift in attitude.

"I thought you didn't really want to go on this blind date?"

Why the sudden enthusiasm?

"So I can get this date over with as fast as possible, obviously! That way, we might still have time to go laugh at that scumbag's misery!"

"God, I hope they lock him up for at least a couple of weeks!"

"Honestly, why isn't cheating a criminal offense? I fully support throwing cheaters in jail. It's the only way those scumbags will ever learn their lesson. Otherwise, they'll just keep getting more and more arrogant!"

Nora laughed helplessly.

"You really don't need to ruin your own plans just to go watch Aaron suffer."

"You should take your time and genuinely get to know your blind date."

Despite her words, Nora sped up her morning routine. She jogged into the bathroom to wash up, threw on some light makeup, changed her clothes, and headed out the door with Valerie.

Meanwhile, at the police precinct.

Aaron sat in the interrogation room, looking absolutely miserable and disheveled. His face turned green the moment he saw Nathan walk in.

"Why are you here?"

He needed a lawyer immediately. If those people managed to pin the blame on him and scam him, he was screwed.

The fact that he didn't have enough money to pay for the damages was one thing.

But what he really feared was catching a criminal charge.

He had sacrificed everything, practically abandoning his moral compass, to get to where he was today. If his future was ruined over a pathetic street fight, it simply wouldn't be worth it.

"Mr. Wells."

Nathan's gaze was entirely devoid of any personal emotion.

It was nothing but the sharp, instinctual scrutiny of a seasoned detective.

Aaron's heart skipped a beat, and the sense of impending dread intensified.

"W-what do you want?"

Nathan stared at him in dead silence for a full minute before speaking in a low, measured tone: "Did you know there was something wrong with the bone broth you drank today?"
