"They aren't cheap, but our boss owns the Costello Ranch, so all the raw ingredients come straight from our own supply."
"Really?"
"That's impressive."
She nodded and didn't press the matter further.
The worker smiled. "Just let us know if you need anything, Miss. We restock constantly."
"Will do, thanks," she murmured.
She didn't actually need anything.
Being a medical examiner meant her appetite for meat was virtually non-existent.
But she was never a picky eater. When work got crazy, she would eat whatever was in front of her.
As she walked away, she glanced back and noticed the massive bone had already been snatched up.
In a busy buffet, the good stuff never lasted long.
She looked away, grabbed some unpeeled fruit, and returned to the table.
He was already seated and manning the grill.
Noticing her plate was mostly vegetables, he offered a faint smile. "I grabbed a ton of stuff. Tell me what you want, and I'll cook it for you."
She didn't decline.
The rest of the team slowly trickled back. Once everyone was settled, they couldn't stop raving about the sheer variety of food.
"For a seafood place, their meat selection is way better than the barbecue joints we usually go to."
"And everything is incredibly fresh. I just saw them restock the beef, and it was so fresh the muscle was still twitching."
"No wonder this place is packed. It's cheap, they have everything, and the quality keeps people coming back."
The group chatted animatedly as they swiftly loaded up the grill and the hot pot.
He placed a piece of cooked meat on her plate. His eyes widened slightly when he noticed someone bringing over a platter of lamb ribs. "They have these too?"
Just as the officer was about to toss the rest of the ribs onto the grill, Nora's voice cut through the noise. "Wait."
Her tone carried an icy edge that instantly silenced the table. Everyone turned to look at her.
"What's wrong?"
Her eyes were dark, a chilling aura radiating from her. "Those aren't lamb ribs."
The group stared at her, utterly confused.
They still hadn't grasped the gravity of the situation. One of her colleagues chuckled, "If it's not lamb, it's gotta be beef, right? A place like this wouldn't mess that up."
"Or are you saying the meat went bad?"
He instantly sensed something was horribly wrong. His expression hardened into absolute vigilance. "Nora."
She nodded, her voice pitched low but carrying enough weight for the entire table to hear clearly: "Human ribs."
With a sharp clatter, someone knocked over their glass, sending a sticky puddle of soda spilling across the floor.
