I slip out of bed and pad towards the closet to grab a dress and some undergarments before I go into the bathroom and get dressed for the day. This time, going into these lessons, I would be dressed for the part and not soaked from the shoulders down.
Anna was at my door with a tray of breakfast once I was done getting dressed.
“I was told to remind you to be at your lessons in the dining hall in 30 minutes,” Anna said, setting the tray on a table across the
room.
I knew it had to be Landon who had given her that message.
With that, she left without another word. I ate some of the breakfast, but my nerves were so jumbled that I wasn’t very hungry. Most of it sat untouched, and by the time I arrived in the dining hall where the other concubines were gathered, I thought I was going to puke from these nerves.
I immediately regretted the little I had eaten.
Landon looked me over as I approached, and he gave me an approving head nod.
“Much better,” he said, his eyes finding mine. “How are you feeling this morning?”
“My stomach feels a little off,” I admitted. “But overall, I’m okay.”
He nodded, his expression becoming serious.
“You must take these lessons seriously, Cecilia. Finding a consort for the King is no joke, and if you are chosen-”
“I won’t be,” I interrupted.
“If you are chosen…” Landon said again, more firmly this time. “You are expected to act as a proper queen. I know you have no training in that aspect, considering you are an Omega. That’s why these lessons are so important for you…”
“Landon, stop harassing my students,” Madam Isa said, stepping beside him and folding her arms across her chest. “You aren’t needed here anymore.”
Landon pressed his lips together and turned to Madam Isa.
“I’m here on official duty, Madam Isa,” Landon said, a bite to his words.
She rolled her eyes.
“As am I, and I can’t do my job when you’re harassing my students,” she said, harrowing her eyes. “Leave now so our lessons can begin.”
He stared at her for a long time, and he thought she was going to argue some more. But he didn’t. Instead, he turned to look at me one last time.
“Take it seriously,” he warned again before he turned and walked out of the dining hall.
Madam Isa just rolled her eyes and turned towards the others.
“Alright, Ladies,” she said, gaining their attention. “Today, we practice formal hosting. You will receive guests of higher rank and respond appropriately. No hesitation and certainly no error.”
Murmurs erupted around us. Vivian was smirking, her eyes sparking with mischief and raw confidence as she folded her arms across her chest.
“Vivian, you will host first,” Madam Isa said. “I will play the role of visiting Duchess.”
There were servants there as well, preparing the dining table with everything required.
