urned and stormed out of the room without another word.

Cecilia, hold on. We’re coming.

Cecilia’s POV

I had a headache.

Come to think of it… my entire body ached.

I couldn’t remember much of anything, but it was clear that something terrible had happened.

or didn’t

I was lying in a plush bed, in a place I was certain I’d never been before, with people I’d either never met or did remember. There were healers busying around me and then there was this girl.

I think she was the one who brought me here, but she seemed kind.

She was also unique-looking.

Her hair was cut into a tousled chin-length bob; its icy platinum-blonde strands framed her face in uneven layers that looked as though practicality had mattered more than fashion. Loose wisps caught the breeze around her sharp cheekbones, giving her an untamed appearance.

And yet, her face was striking without any makeup or elaborate jewelry. Her hazel-grey eyes studied everything in the room, like she was waiting for an attack at any moment. A straight, delicate nose and naturally full lips softened the sharper angles of her face while her calm expression hinted at quiet determination instead of arrogance.

She wore fitted black leather arms that hugged her figure without restricting movement. The sleeves’ cuffs were reinforced with stitched panels and subtle metal rivets, built for mobility rather than ceremonial display. Layers of weathered leather belts wrapped around her waist and hips, each carrying practical tools instead of decoration.

A dark forest-green hooded cloak rested loosely across her shoulders; the edges frayed from years of hard use. Thick leather bracers protected both forearms, while several buckled straps circled the upper arm, adding another layer of lightweight protection.

Fingerless gloves covered her hands, leaving her fingers free for a secure grip on the apple she was carving with a large hunter’s knife. She sat on a chair beside me, her bare feet resting on the mattress beside me.

“Truly, Lucy. What kind of princess are you?” One of the healers asked as she entered the room with a glass of

water.

Some of the healers called her Luciana, and she scowled at them, so I made a mental note to call her Lucy instead.

The corner of Lucy’s mouth curved as the healer continued.

“You’re always dressed like you are ready for a battle.”

“Aren’t we always ready for a battle, Mariah?” Lucy asked, her perfectly trimmed brows raising slightly. “We can never be too safe. It’s how I was raised. You, more than anyone, should know that we are always being hunted… always being watched.”

Mariah, the healer, expression softened.

“You could at least pretend to be a lady,” she murmured. “I’m gone for ten minutes, and you changed your clothes.”

When I first woke earlier, Lucy was wearing a delicate dress.

“I did pretend… You saw what I was wearing when I came home. I wanted to rip it off my body. I hate wearing dresses. I’d much rather wear trousers. Or walk around in my underwear.”

“Your father would have a fit,” Mariah laughed, shaking her head.

“Yeah, probably don’t want to try that one again.”

This made both the girls laugh.

Mariah stepped towards the bed, handing me a glass of water with a softened smile.

“How are you feeling?”

I took a sip of the water, offering her a small and tentative smile.

“Still no memory,” I tell her. “I don’t even know my own name.”

“Be patient. I’m sure it’ll come back to you with time. For right now… rest. Lucy, stop bothering her and let her sleep,” she said, turning to Lucy as she spoke that last part.
