Chapter 312
crambled to my feet; my legs immediately buckled beneath me, and I hit the ground hard.
“No…” I rasped out as panic surged through me.
I couldn’t even stand; how was I going to escape this underground bunker?
There was another set of footsteps that echoed from somewhere above. Then there were voices… they were faint, but they, along with the footsteps, were growing closer.
I had to move.
I forced myself upright again, this time using the wall for support. My knees shook violently, but they held. I staggered towards the darkest side of the bunker just as my mother instructed.
At first, it looked nothing more than a shadow. Then I noticed the narrow passage hidden behind a collapsed pile
of stone.
Without a single thought, I slipped inside.
The tunnel was barely wide enough for one person; cold earth brushed against my shoulders as I shuffled through it. And behind me, a heavy metal door creaked open.
“Wake her.”
My heart stopped.
The gammas.
Lbit down hard on my lip to keep from making a sound.
“They said they heard her screaming,” one of them said, letting out a low laugh. “Think she was having a nightmare?”
“I think I heard something about her finding a spider,” another laughed. “Should we give her another dose of wolfsbane?”
“We need to get food in her first. We can’t let her die… not yet at least. Sophia wants her alive until after the wedding,” the first gamma reminded the others.
My stomach knotted; the wedding… it hasn’t happened yet.
I couldn’t let it happen; if my mother was right about everything else, she was right when she said that Sophia wasn’t Leopold’s mate. If he were to mate her, the curse would remain forever. That had to be why Warren didn’t like Sophia, because he could sense she was lying.
My heart lurched, but I kept moving.
One painful step after another; the tunnel curved sharply, and then I spotted moonlight. It wasn’t much, but it was enough to illuminate an old wooden ladder disappearing upward. I wanted to let out a sob of relief.
I hurried as fast as my battered body would allow, and behind me, one of the gammas cursed.
“The chains are broken. She’s fucking gone.”
“What the hell are you talking about? How is that possible??” Another gamma asked. “The silver should have stopped her.”

“That’s the part that’s broken,” the other gamma growled.
e bunker erupted into chaos; my hands grabbed the ladder, and every rung sent pain shooting through my bruised ribs as I climbed. I gritted my teeth so hard I thought they would crack. I sent a small prayer to the Moon Goddess and to my mother, who I hoped was still watching, asking them to keep my baby and my wolf safe.
I finally reached the top, and when I wanted to rest for a moment to catch my breath and soothe my aching body, I pushed myself forward.
I found the heavy iron hatch; a large, rusted dial sat in its center.
Four turns left. Three right.
My shaking hands gripped the cold metal, and I turned it. Once I was done with the sequence, for one horrifying second… nothing happened.
